Carolina waived Zach Boychuk. Seems like somebody's going to claim him.

(I think once the season starts, the waiver priority is set by the percentage points rather than last year's standings. So Florida/Washington/Philly would have first dibs rather than Columbus/Edmonton/Montreal).

Edit: Normally the waiver priority in the first month of the season is based on last year's standings. But nobody's quite 100% sure if the procedure is changed in the shortened season. But it's looking like Columbus/Edmonton/Montreal/etc in that order would have priority.

I really like Boychuk. He's not making it to us though.

Don't really care what the other 29 teams think.

Henrik Lundqvist and Datsyuk were 6th rounders. No one wanted them for a long time.

Could be, but other teams are in different situations, different rosters, different flexibility.

Martin St Louis was passed over in the expansion draft and then had his contract bought out. Weird things happen, that in retrospect were bad mistakes.

They sure do have a lot of faith in McPhee. Though his recent moves might suggest that faith is misplaced.

It's incredible the sheer stupidity on those boards.

I get pissed off every time I see a trade thread of some player who is so vital to a team and locked up on a favorable deal for like 6 years. Why the hell even make a trade thread when there's no way possible the team would want to give him up? It's just worthless, you have the fans of the player say your best player and then it just goes into a circle jerk of who the better player is.

No one ever makes trade threads about the guys who are likely to be traded. The second/third liners and second/third pairing defenders on the lower tier teams with expiring contracts. Seldom do you see a player who is locked up on an affordable deal and for a good period of time get traded.

That's too bad, I have my reservations about how the NHL will fare in Seattle. I went to Phoenix last week [mumble]to watch a WWE event[/mumble] and caught a Kings/Coyotes game while I was there. The arena is nice, but it's just a little out of the way from Phoenix.

Solid positionally. Great down low along the boards. Very strong and tenacious on the body. Will wow you with a diving poke check or a nice defensive play once in a while. Downside is he is terrible with the puck and his outlet passes are acceptable to below average.

He's also slow and gets walked around like he is a statue on skates from time to time. At this point, I don't know if he's anything more then a third pairing PK specialist.
