So they are breaking the agreement the KHL put together with the NHL not to poach each others players under contract ?

Yep. When is the KHL going to have a real chance of keeping Ovechkin, Malkin, and Kovy ever again?

Long term this is a terrible move for the KHL. If an NHL team wants a KHL player, all they have to do is say so and they can get that KHL player under contract. A lot harder for the KHL to steal a player.

Obviously you have exceptions like Radulov, but the point is the NHL can pretty much sign whoever they want since it's the premier hockey league in the world.

Also, if players fail to honor their NHL contract and stay in the KHL, I'm pretty sure they are inelgible for the Olympics.

Saw this posted in the BoH about the schedule:

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/bill-daly-tells-cp-48-game-nhl-season-161211959--nhl.html

A 48-game schedule was played following the 1994-95 lockout and that allowed for a balanced intraconference schedule for what was then a 26-team league.

It's going to be a little more complicated this time around. The NHL is planning to have teams play three games against the 10 opponents within the same conference but outside their division. They will then have an unbalanced schedule against division rivals, with five games against two teams and four against the two others, according to a source.

Hope this is the case, but I still want to know the schedule already darnit. The NHL's going to have enough problems selling tickets in some markets as is, never mind trying to coax people to buying them barely a week in advance of the season starting.

I'd kinda rather play the Rangers, Flyers or Bruins in the opener than the Jets. Which still hasn't been confirmed yet anyway.

We always seem to come out flat on opening night. We've lost on opening night 3 seasons in a row now, and 4 of the last 5 seasons. Like I said all of last year I'd rather take a loss to a team that we know will be in the playoffs like the Rangers, Flyers, or Bruins than a team like the Jets. Especially since we'll be losing some games to those tough teams anyway.

The season is gonna be tough if we play Atlantic Divison teams a bunch of times this year

I won't be surprised if one of the teams that made the playoffs in the Atlantic last season misses it this year. Hoping it is the Flyers and not us.

The Bruins gave us problems last year
I know, and it was incredibly frustrating. They only had to show up for 5 minutes, and were able to beat us. Like the one game we led 1-0 for most of the game until in the 3rd, and they somehow score 3 goals in 5 minutes. GTFO!

Good news is Thomas won't be there, and he's the reason we lost all the games against them pretty much. We usually outplayed them for the most part aside from that 6-1 blowout.

A few questions about the CBA. Is the trading of cap space something that was put in? And the buyouts? I'd imagine it's just back to 1 amnesty buyout rather than 2? Since the 2 was for the $60 million cap.

I'd rather get the Winnipeg trip over with right out the gate, since that's the only game we'll have outside of the Eastern Time Zone

Of course waiting 'another' week besides these two for the home opener is going to stink. Especially if it's on the 26th and I have to miss it.

Mirtle just posted this:

James Mirtle ‏@mirtle
Keeping salary in trades: Teams can have up to three contracts at one time that they are retaining the salary of.

James Mirtle ‏@mirtle
The max teams can keep is 15% of the salary cap. Only 50% of a deal can be kept. A contract can have salary retained in a trade only twice.

---------------------------

Teams have 2 amnesty buyouts, they can use them any time in the next 2 offseasons, I believe.

Well that's better than trading actual cap space like what was proposed.

If it's on Facebook it's gotta be true.

People are just making things up based on the original schedule.

The 19th opener in Wpg was all but confirmed by the Jets writer.

They probably will stick to the original schedule 'some'what, at least in terms of what dates are used, maybe even some of the original matchups (with conference and division games).

Ironically the Devils had 24 home games scheduled from the 22nd on in the old schedule, so they could basically just stick to using all those dates if they wanted  The seven non-conference games of those 24 would have to be filled in with other conference games obviously

Just for fun we should compare that with whatever schedule comes out later this week.

No doubt some dates will remain unchanged, but they're not even sure how many games will be played and what teams will be facing who how many times. I don't doubt we'll open vs. Winnipeg, but I'm not believing it until it's confirmed by either team.

By the sounds of it Visnovsky is definitely staying in Slovakia now. Poor Isles.
