The Penguins are the best overall team in the East, but there's a lot of East teams that will give them problems in a series.

Any team that plays a physical, defensive minded game can beat them in a series. I think the Rangers would be their worst matchup of all the 5-10 seeds right now. And if the season ended today, that's who they would face.

The Rangers? Pittsburgh usually kicks the **** out of the Rangers.

Fleury has won a Stanley Cup before. He's not the problem. The soft defense is the problem.

That was a Fluke Career Year for MAF. What has he done since then?

He's been more responsible for the Pens not going anywhere than their "soft D" even though that doesn't help matters either.

There was a reason that MAF's 5 hole was pretty much THE joke in the playoff photoshop thread round 1.

Also I was really a fan of Maclean's comments on the Iggy trade. "I don't know why we're going to bother playing the playoffs." Pete basically said the same thing, but without the sarcastic joke so Mac wins the "you don't win the playoffs at the trade deadline" quote.

Pitt is a very scary team. Can easily blow games open and MAF is inconsistent; meaning he could give you a great game or a clunker.

Although if we get them round 1, I am inexplicably ok with it. In fact, I'd prefer that over Boston still.

I'd prefer them over Boston by far. We can beat Pitt, we can't seem to beat Boston. Though I am not sure anymore Boston is even going to win the NE. I figured they would of turned it on by now and taken it but they just haven't.

I think already crowing the Penguins champions is silly, but with that said, if the current NJ team played them (as it stands today), they would likely be a 5 and out for them at best. There is a lot of quality out of our lineup right now and it would be asking quite a lot to compete with a lineup that has that much depth.

Now a healthy Devils squad could play the Penguins pretty tight for a series imo, but all things being equal, NJ is still really lacking that extra scoring punch that they would desperately need against a deep team like Pittsburgh. More importantly, we would need a significant boost to the powerplay. If they're not scoring with an extra man on the ice, forget about it, because it will be too uphill of a battle.

It's all moot anyways. The Devils need to get there first. Pittsburgh should be the least of our concerns.

Right now we gotta worry about the Fishcakes and the Raggies. We could catch Toronto as we have 2 games in hand and are only 5 points back. The Fishcakes do not scare me, but we have them coming up soon and like I said. They're the team we're most prone to no showing against. The Rangers have Montreal on the road, Winnipeg at home and a home and home with the Pens. With any luck the Habs, and Pens bury them. Winnipeg is also 2-0-0 against them so far this season. After that their schedule gets much easier for the remainder of the season. A home and home with Toronto, Fishcakes, a couple against Carolina, a tour of the leagues bottom feeders, and two games against us in the last week.

I don't care if the Rangers make the playoffs or not. I'm more concerned with us, and right now they're the closest on our tail. Of course this could be a non worry if the Devils take the next 3 or at least 4-5 points out of the next 3. Then we can cool off for a couple days, and see what the deadline brings, or possibly a return for Zubrus, news on Kovy, etc. Then we got the Bruins.

I am real curious to see what Vancouver gets for Luongo considering his age and aweful contract. If he goes to Toronto their chance for success will increase greatly.

What would they have to give? What would you give if you were Toronto?

Prospect swap between Edmonton/Phoenix. Edmonton gets Kale Kessy (enforcer/checking line type) and Phoenix gets Tobias Rieder (small skilled type).

First thought was NES Ice Hockey. Skinny guy for fat guy.

There was some hype for Kessy before the 2011 Draft about him going as high as Kyle Clifford did in 2009. Kessy went #111th while Rieder went a few picks after him at #114. Don Maloney, a Kitchener Ranger alum, adds Rieder who has played the last three years in Kitchener. Swap makes sense for both sides.

Never seen Kessy play but I like that Rieder kid a lot.

Of course it had to happen before the deadline, the Pens'll just buy Bouwmeester or whatever other defenseman's available.

And almost as if on cue, Montreal puts Kaberle on waivers. Doubt anyone claims him with $4.25 million as a cap hit for next year though.
