Best part of that was watching the Leafs take a timeout to settle down while playing with a 3-2 lead… only to proceed to get outplayed some more and blow it. The Leafs were lucky it even made OT.

The heck was he thinking. This one was totally predictable. Fit is everything. Imagine how much fun he could be having right now on NJD. I really do not get it. Good thing for NYI, at least in the short term, though.

Why would a winger go to a team with just a terrible collection of centers?

Do you think Marner is a problem in any other place than that wacky fishbowl? I'm not 100% sure, but I'd easily take the bet that it's more the circumstances than it is him.

But I did make the right choice as the Leafs lose to Anaheim 4-3 in OT, and there are TWENTY-SIX pages of whining on their dedicated After Game thread . . . their whining thread is much longer than our typical total game thread. Truly inspiring. I was wondering if I should have slipped in a Hire Lou Back comment but remembered the old saying about when your enemy is digging a ditch, don't stop them.

I’ll admit it. I’m a lurker when it comes to our ex, PJB.

10 games in he’s doing better than I expected. Dig a little deeper and it’s far less impressive.

10 games and 10 points. Looks good but seven of those points are on the PP. At even strength, he has zero goals and 3 assists. Oh, and he’s -5 on the always popular +/- scale.

You might be right, who knows... we don't have all the info we need to be 100% sure about it. Take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Can't help but feel Marner's overall attitude, body language and tantrums mean he's a spoiled child carrying an "A"... what he did yesterday was not OK (and the way Keefe handled it possibly tells us he shouldn't be coaching the Leafs). I also feel they have a huge leadership problem with Matthews/JT (lol)/Marner.

Maybe a change of scenery does wonders for him and the Leafs. I'd start with Marner, that's for sure.

Context: He was at fault in two of Anaheim's goals (stupid turnovers). Keefe talks about it in the video (you can even see the "two" hand gesture). I can clearly see 2 issues there: Marner's childish reaction and the bench looking like it couldn't care less about what Keefe's saying.

A few thoughts: (i) the first turnover was bad, and you obviously didn't have to tell marner just how bad it was (ii) the second turnover was a bad play, but it was compounded by a bad pass/idea from Matthews, and just terrible defense. Look on the far side, and you'll see Holl creeping down the half wall in the offensive zone. Why? What was he thinking? I'm not a hockey coach, but I coach a team sport, and the job of the weak side defender (middie in my sport) is to protect against the turnover/break up the middle. (iii) so Marner is frustrated, and smashed a stick. Okay. And?

I mean, come on.

It’s pretty clear from the in game situation, the players do not respect Keefe - him calling them out earlier in the season (and fans love this stuff…) had the 100% opposite impact.

Dubas is going down with his guys: Keefe and Murray. There was also that big JT signing article where they committed to JT that the big4 would not be traded and that was part of the reason he signed on. He’s hamstring himself to that commitment- something a very experienced GM wouldn’t have done.

Whats more interesting is whether Shanahan can spin this to bring in a GM and coach, but he stays on.

They have to can Shanny, too, no? He's the guy who picked the rookie GM (who hired the rookie coach) and Shanny was a big part of wooing Snake, which screwed up their salary structure for their hot young RFAs.

One would think so, however, he’s enriched the franchise during his tenure. The ‘owners’ might not want to touch that. He can counter with a plan for a new GM and coach ‘the team is so close, just needs some adjustments, yada’ and the money will keep flowing.

How can Shanahan come out of this unscathed? He has to be swept out with Dubas.

The Yankees and Maple Leafs seem to operate the same way. Win just enough to sell season tickets and keep the tourists coming to games all year long. Who gives a shit if we don’t win a championship. The tv ratings are high and the sponsors are paying the ad rates.

They are gonna need a veteran steward as opposed to the spreadsheet. Not many of those guys, possibly Dean Lombardi gets a call.
