The Montreal Canadiens just put on an awful display of how not to defend in the NHL. 9-4 Bruins in the 3rd period. So many uncontested Bruins goals from right on the doorstep.

Imagine having some of the players PIT has and being THAT big of mess and also having Dubas as your GM.

It ain’t that bad in Isles country folks.
Uhh, 100% of Isles fans would take the Pens current position if it came with their last 30 years of success.

Even disregarding that fact, they literally have a higher point percentage than we do this season and their goal differential (Lou’s stat of choice) is +32 better than ours lol

To be painting the Islanders’ situation as a utopia compared to Pittsburgh seems pretty myopic at best.

Not to be picky but their season point % is now less than ours after their loss tonight(but it can change day to day). Will let him speak for himself but dont think he was referring to the last 30 years. Personally, despite their star power, I would not want that aging roster now or for the last 5 years, over ours (and we are not young either and far from utopia) but any way you want to slice it that was a very funny play which I enjoyed immensely so dont spoil it !!!! LOL!!!

Yeah, but I’m not comparing the past 30 years. Just this season (and last, I mean losing to Chicago to play into the playoffs? - no one can defend that).

PIT is an erratic team with no depth, week d, and suspect goaltending. That’s been their story for like 5 years. But, they do have some damn good players (aged, battled tested, winners), but the wrong composition and management to win anything.

It just strikes me as funny that this team has had unprecedented success over a ridiculously long period, and now we’re making fun of them for finally being “bad”, and they’ve still basically been better than us.

I’m making fun of them bc they should still be good with those players on the team, but they are not. And trying to give a final go with those players they hired a window dresser that accomplished nothing with a stacked team he was given.

Any chance to snicker about the Penguins is relished by some folks here especially when the Islanders have a massive 3 point lead over them

They should probably have a 20 point lead, but they don’t. That’s their problem, but it also impacts the Isles because their lack of success opens a playoff spot for other teams.

I think it's more because of the moves they did make and the hyperbole surrounding them. Karlsson was supposed to elevate that team but they're right where they've been for the past few seasons, battling for a Wild Card spot. It's compounded by the fact that it was Dubas who made that move instead of addressing actual areas of concern for that roster, much like he did when he was with Toronto. There is a bit of comedy there.

Crosby is still tearing it up and they have the past success but they appear to be a shell of their former selves and aren't quite sure what direction to go in as a franchise. I don't blame them for continually chasing the cup at this point, their rebuild will come when it comes, but they needed smarter moves to help make that last cup a reality.

20 points? You're exaggerating. Age has set in on their top players. But as well as Jarry played and the heater they went on this season has kept them in the race. And let's face it, I like their goal differential for getting into the playoffs a helluva lot more than the Islanders or the Capitals chances.

Just as with every other season since he came on, Lou had to make a season saving move. This time it was his coach. Just for once I'd like the Islanders to be secure in a playoff position so they don't have to play balls to the wall catchup with the last half of the season. I can count on 1 finger the number of times that's happened.

This should be the goal for the regular season. I don't care whether it's first place or third place, but being securely in a playoff position by mid-year and then continuing to build off that would be great. I've never seen it happen for this franchise.

The core Lou loves and went to the mat for every season always needs a jolt to keep from falling out of the playoffs. Being a scrappy team in the playoffs does not excuse their regular seasons.

Age has set in, but they are still strong players. Age has set in on Dallas players too, but they are being saved by a younger crop underneath them. Of course, they didn’t win like PIT.

But to PK’s point, the moves they keep making to keep them competitive are the wrong moves over and over again, otherwise, that team should be much higher in the standings.

Am I exaggerating? Obviously, I’d rather see Crosby and co. be a more competitive team as he sunsets his career bc they can be, but their management is terrible.

On the Isles, while there’s definitely fault for Lou there, he does make moves that make a difference to fix issues and help the team. It hasn’t resulted in the big win yet, but he’s done better than anyone expected. That may not be the standard for people, but there’s plenty of trainwrecks out there with more talent that don’t go anywhere.

Not many teams are securely in a playoff position by mid-year. Look at the 2nd place Flyers. Only 4 points from being out of the playoffs. Not to mention most of the teams chasing them have a game (or two) in hand. In the East, I'd say only the Bruins, FLA and Rangers are securely in a playoff position. Although FLA and NYR are one losing streak away from making it too close for comfort.

NYR are something like 4-6-1 in January, so a little bit of a skid, only 4 points up on second place.

Absolutely true, I should've said that I'd like the team to know they're making the playoffs entering every year. There are certainly teams like Boston, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Carolina, etc. that fit that mold even if the standings say things are fairly close.
