And jackets win in OT. What a crazy game.
Was listening in the car when it went 5-2. Did not want to check the score later.

Jackets have some forwards who can generate some offense. Defense is a bit of a trainwreck and did not have enough depth to absorb the loss of Roslovic. Not saying they would be a lot better but suck a bit less.

Kent Johnson is a fun player to watch.

Why is that BS? He never shot the puck, he was stickhandling and the goalie got a piece of the deke, then Zuccarello shot it. Seems like the correct call to me.
Quick Look to me looked like the puck just rolled in. I don’t see why that’s BS either.

The Russian kids playing together are going to cause heartburn for years to come, they are the real deal.

I was watching the game. The announcers thought the goal might be called back due to goalie interference. His stick clearly came into contact with the goalie’s pad.

Avs trade Tomas Tatar to the Kraken for a 5th round pick in the 2024 draft.

If that's the case, then the CAR goalie's poke check on Tkachuk the other night (and every other goalie who implements a poke check in a shootout) should have been recovered by Tkachuk skated back in front and shot since the poke check was on a puck that was not yet defined as a shot but was being transported by Tkachuk.

Not sure how much stock we put into Forbes but I assume the value of the Islanders has a lot to do with a.) being in New York b.) new world-class arena c.) surrounding business economic impact

A majority of it is the addressable market. The isles building UBS finally put them in the valuation category, that’s all it took. However, if they had a new arena in Nassau, doubt their valuation is that high. UBS brings in the total NY market. NVMC or whatever in Nassau never would.

Senators fire DJ Smith. Jacques Martin named interim head coach.

DJ. I told ya you should have quit the day Martin was placed over you.

Shockingly the Sens did not name Cappy as interim coach

At least his money is guaranteed and if you quit you'd forfeit that I guess.

Only 30 games in but who here honestly had TB and NJ in lottery land at this point in the season?

Meanwhile, the Isles have been a pleasant surprise for me and more so for the armchair NHL gurus.

Considering the giant steps forward for Dobson and Holmstrom, Barzal finding his stride, solid goaltending which frankly can be even better and all the while doing this with their first pairing Dmen being injured, the Isles playoff spot is theirs for the taking.

Detroit, Washington, Pittsburgh: not buying it
NJ: Their weaknesses on D and in net make me wonder if they can even make it without a trade for a goalie
TB: I still expect they have a run in them. Too much top line talent there.

So there it is. The maloik.

I had TB not making the playoffs from the offseason. Same with Was and PIt, so I’m doing fine. Felt NJ could slip with their goaltending and reliance on OT/SHO to
gain a lot points last year.

Letang has been a dirty Rat for years. I’ll never forget maybe 10 years ago he took a Barry bonds swing at Tavares Achilles away from the play.

Most of the penguins roster is unlikable if you play then at least 3-4 times a year. I still giggled when Sorokin tripped Guentzel a few years back because I knew it was wrong, but the dude flops around so much that I didn't even feel bad.

I can see Tampa making a run while the Flyers hit the skids at some point.
Flyers ain't letting go. Torts will not stop until that team has no more juice. That apple will be crushed completely to make the finest apple juice of a hockey team.

THIRD STAR – NOAH DOBSON, D, NEW YORK ISLANDERS

Dobson paced the NHL with eight assists (0-8—8) and a +7 rating (tied) in four games to guide the Islanders (14-8-8, 36 points) to points in three of their four contests (2-1-1). He recorded three helpers, including a secondary assist on Bo Horvat’s overtime winner, in a 4-3 triumph against the Toronto Maple Leafs Dec. 11. Dobson then picked up a pair of assists in a 4-3 comeback victory over the Anaheim Ducks Dec. 13 before being held without a point in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Boston Bruins Dec. 15. He closed the week with helpers on all three New York goals, his third career three-assist performance (also Nov. 30 at CAR), in a 5-3 defeat versus the Montreal Canadiens Dec. 16. The 23-year-old Dobson has played in 30 total contests this season, ranking fourth among defensemen with 5-27—32 and in the top 10 among all skaters in average time on ice (3rd; 25:33), plus/minus (t-5th; +17) and assists (t-7th; 27).

Flyers are Trotz Isles Year 1.

Do flyers fans want to tank? Or make the playoffs? They are supposed to be rebuilding…
Flyers fans have the best of both worlds because their recent good play can easily lure in Gauthier, and they could get Michkov sooner rather than later. Btw, they should be so grateful that the Habs were so stupid at #5.

Michkov was the perfect pick for them. An inexperienced management team, bought themselves 3-4 years of being judged on the pick since whomever was picking him was aware of it.

Tuned into the Buffalo game during intermission and man these guys are bad. They changed goalies and gave up another one a minute later, just getting tooled by Columbus. Wonder if Granato lasts much longer.

EDIT: actually it was 18 seconds later, and they just gave up another one a minute after that.
