Ducks handing Vegas their first regulation lost. Fun team to watch and good for Ross the Boss being a full time NHLer over there.

Nov 15th could get ugly… Horvat’s return to VAN against a streaking Canucks team.

Reckless sure, fineable...nah. He wasn't even injured.

Eh, not a fan of results-oriented punishment. That's a slippery and bad slope.

For me, he swung his stick recklessly, had nothing to really do with the play, and has the potential to seriously injure someone. If you're the NHL, you need to deter that play.

I see some things on the other boards about how Evan Bouchard of EDM is an effective offensive player but apparently is struggling big time defensively. Last year seeing him on the PP in the playoffs I was starting to wonder if he was better than Dobson. But, maybe not.

Maybe? Edmonton would offer Bouchard for Dobson three times an hour.

A $9 million player fined $5,000 wouldn't be much of a deterrence

That's more arguing the efficacy of fining in general, not which acts should be fined and which shouldn't. Same arguments exist for extremely wealthy people and traffic (and other) fines.

Basically, that's not the argument at hand. Whether we need to institute a progressive model for fines, a system that graduates to stiffer penalties and suspensions, etc. is a good discussion to have -- it's just not this one. And for the record, I agree with you here -- the system needs to be overhauled.

But, we've established an agreed upon situation that we've instituted fines for the purpose of deterring actions in the game. Same reason the NBA moved to fining people for flopping -- they want it out of the game; and it worked. Now that we have that baseline, this particular play, IMO, falls into the category of finable because of it's potential to injure and the lack of necessity to make that play for the actual game.

By the rules set forth by the NHL, it deserves a fine and got one. There's literally zero need for a dangerous play like that.

Almost nobody can fit him so I guess it's a safe move. What a disappointing move for Edmonton and a fall for Campbell. At least he secured his money before falling off.
The second half of his last season in TOR was not very good, so there was enough red flags on signing beyond 1yr deal. A guy like that you put on a short leash.

It's a tough situation, because you effectively scuttle the team unless you have a goalie, all while having the best player in the league at forward. Not a lot of goalies get moved around, since it's such a singular position. You gotta make due the best you can. Seems bad all around in Edmonton right now.

But, they weren't winning the cup anyway so who the f*** cares.

Bouchard was indifferent to defense when drafted. I think/thought Dobson is better. I also think he would benefit from a Seidenberg type presence the way Mayfield did. Houda seems to be a dullard who misses matchups and has our defenseman running around in circles.

Lightning trade Zach Bogosian to the Wild for a 7th round pick in the 2024 draft.

This is what I expect the return to be for Cal Clutterbuck and Matt Martin. Don’t hold out for more.

If they go, they’ll fetch 3-5th rounders. Motte, Brassard, and Carpenter got 4th rounders last deadline.

Look at the Kings power play and how good they are. I wonder who their power play coach is?
