I’ll just leave this here so you can see there is no comparison between the two.

Gartner career stats. Take note of the “goals”. That’s kinda important:

Almost a point per game player eh? I know you Baileytards overlook things like “goals scored” but it’s kinda important to the rest of us.

Gartner also skated like the wind.. and was a threat coming down the ice.

So between just those two points, he is the polar opposite of Bailey. And I never said he was my favorite player… but simply one of my fav non- Islanders players.

Wanna try again?
But what were his stats when his whole team was playing poorly? I thought that was how you measured a player?

Gartner had over 700 G and 1300 pts. Not bad

My favorite Gartner tidbit is that he played on same line with Messier in WHA

From the useless fact pages
Mike Gartner scored the first goal of the game in the Easter Epic..

Where were all of you on that day ? I remember like it was yesterday . Hicksville Ground Round from pre game to post game . LGI

I measure a player by watching him play.

Are you saying Gartner is comparable AT ALL to Bailey?

I know that answer is “no” from you.

Loved Ground Round. Free popcorn right?

I was at in-laws most of day. Listened to the overtimes on radio

Thanks to the corruption of borough presidents, believe it or not, I had no access to cable then

Peanuts in the shell too. The floor was always covered with the empties. Back then you could get 10 cent Buffalo wings and 5 dollar pitchers for Monday Night Football. “Ah the 80s”

Nah, just wondering why you keep changing the goalposts when it's in regards to a player you like vs one you don't.

What is your point here? Gartner is a Hall of Famer who was named one of the 100 greatest players of all time and had his jersey retired. Why are you comparing them, the prior poster was not favorably comparing Bailey to him, he just said that Gartner was his favorite player? Are you going to compare Bailey to Gretzky next? There is a large gap between good player (Bailey) and HOF (Gartner), but still a lot of room to be a successful NHLer in between. Are you saying that since Gartner was a better player than Bailey, it somehow proves your point that Bailey is not good? Baffling.

What would you have been like if you had been a Canucks fan.I can imagine alll of your post about how Henrik Sedin sucked since he doesn't score enough goals to qualify as top 6 based on your criteria because he averaged only 14.8 goals per 82 over his career (.18 GPG). What a bum, should be a bottom 6 or career AHLer. But he did have 1330 pts and .80 PPG. Pretty damn good player and a HOF, and I have no doubt his brother doesn't score nearly as many goals with out him. No I would not compare Bailey to be in his class either but just pointing out how absurd your premises are. It takes all types of players to make up a team. Someone has to cover for teammates on defense , pass the puck and put other players in position to score as well.

Maybe you will advocate Matt Moulson for the Hall of fame since he averaged 32 GP82 for us (only 13.5 after he left, 22.2 over his career) even though he was a liability in almost ever other aspect of his game. Not trying to dump on Matt, as it is always nice to have that guy who has the knack around the net to get the garbage goals and willing to pay the price to stay in front of the net but he was as one dimensional as they came with regard to skill set).

I think you didn't follow the thread. Bones wasn't the one to compare Bailey and Gartner. Bones said one of his favorite players outside of Islander players was Gartner. Then RDC found that ironic that he hates Bailey but likes Gartner. That's when the comparison ensued. It wasn't Bones instigating the need for comparison. Bones brought up stats, RDC was talking about being a soft perimeter player...and that's where we are at.

Edmonton goal horn is atrocious, had to be the worst in the NHL, possibly any sport. Sounds like what a first responder would hear when getting to a foggy 12 car highway pileup of clown cars.

carry on.

Gartner was a monster in EA Sports hockey. Not as good as Roenick, Yzerman, Fedorov, etc. but so fast and I remember trading for him many times.

Buckley's on Nostrand Ave Brooklyn.
So you must have visited famous Brennan and Carr for the roast beef and au jour if you lived around there . Nostrand to Ave U. Two minutes from Buckleys. Been 15 years since my last visit . Is 730 am to early for roast beef ?

Re: Lehner

For those getting giddy, please remember that the absolute KEY to Lou's plan to see this team back in the conference finals is having a 1A and 1B in goal. That is something we currently have and roughly 80% of the league does not.

Throw in Varlamov's apparent "Russian role model" role for Sorokin, which only gets bigger now that Romanov is here and will be living Stateside for the first time, and well it should be seen as an absolute pipe dream that Varlamov will be moved.

If we're out of the playoff picture by the trade deadline, then you can bet your bottom dollar that Varlamov - who is an upcoming UFA - will be available. But not beforehand.

I was 14 and in Puerto Rico with my family. Still mad that I missed that game live. Heard what happened from other kids there.
