Two of the hottest and most humid places in the country. Gonna take a lot to keep that ice good, no?Atlanta is in the top 10 TV markets in the country. Houston is up there as well. That's not insignificant.
If they go with the PVC piping from Home Depot they should be fine. Two of the hottest and most humid places in the country. Gonna take a lot to keep that ice good, no?
The Thrashers were fine. The city got screwed by a shitty owner who threw the franchise under the bus because he wanted to sell the Hawks. Another franchise would do fine there, especially since they're proposing to build the facility in the suburbs like they did with the Braves.
Well, part of the issue with Atlanta is that it's a largely suburban city. An event downtown requires 90% of the participants to travel from the northern suburbs, and it's a hassle. It's why the Braves moved to the suburbs... people hated going to the ballpark. I remember reading about the Braves situation and the #1 issue they had in regards to attendance was, by far, people not wanting to go into town. I'd imagine a lot of the baseball demo overlaps with the hockey one. The arena proposal is pretty far from town... too far in my opinion, but I think people would be more willing to travel to a game there than downtown. Just like any other city, there's demographic elements in play and the northern arc, where the facility is being proposed, is significantly more affluent and made up of northern transplants than the southern area of town.If and when that building is built, and I'm pretty certain there's a very specific and hockey-friendly area for it, then I can't see the NHL not going back.
I wonder if other fan-bases are excited about the start to the season. There is just zero excitement coming out of Islanders nation these days.
Suburb ATL would work fine. This is from my very little experience but.... I think a franchise outside the city of Atlanta would do well. I don't want another expansion team though. I've driven to Atlanta a few times since I live close and it is a pain in the ass to go through that city. If I was living out in the suburbs there is no way in hell I would be driving out for every game.
This arena sounds like it would be outside the city. I think it would do fine. Ownership would also hopefully be better.
The Canucks just solved their cap problem.
Suburb ATL would work fine.
34 teams total is weird, but with an arena the team owns and a good ownership group it will survive (and potentially succeed).
I have no problem with the NHL owners taking another 2 Billy.
Which one?!?They are a weird franchise.
If the Leafs are doing it, it's probably a little bit crazy.Leafs trying Nylander at C. They will apparently also leave Matthews and Tavares at C. So there you go. Maybe Barzal, Horvat and Nelson at C isn't so crazy after all.
Can't find chemistry with Barzal... not what we need. Why hasn't Lou signed McDavid to a PTO? He could only help the power play.
Houston had an AHL team. Went to a few games. My dad had season tickets. Ice seemed fine. Two of the hottest and most humid places in the country. Gonna take a lot to keep that ice good, no?
Indeed, that's a possibility. They could also be trying him out there to see if he can slot in behind Matthews as a 2C eventually if they let Tavares walk, or move him to wing. Like, if he's insisting on $10M+, they may figure they don't want 2 wings making that much so let's try him at C.If the Leafs are doing it, it's probably a little bit crazy.
Wonderful move . . . but you wonder how long until a mean defender will light him up on thatJust finished watching the AZ-LA game from Australia. Check out 19 year old Logan Cooley's first NHL goal.

YeahI’d stick with your first two words. Helluva move.
As an Isles fan, I’m not jealous.![]()
This next gen of players wasn’t raised like that, so it’s highly doubtful that’s going to happen. There’s less and less of that style in the game now and making moves like that is no longer frowned upon either.Wonderful move . . . but you wonder how long until a mean defender will light him up on that
I'm looking forward to goal dances. This next gen of players wasn’t raised like that, so it’s highly doubtful that’s going to happen. There’s less and less of that style in the game now and making moves like that is no longer frowned upon either.
