Interesting. I assume they are looking to sell high, pivot and maybe try to upgrade elsewhere.

They are definitely going to have to be creative with all of the free agents, cap issues and limited assets.

Going to Swayman (alongside an inexpensive vet) on the cheap vs. Ullmark at $5 million AAV would probably net them some quality assets, help with the cap and maybe lets them extend Bertuzzi and/or Orlov?

Not a bad idea for them, especially if they believe in Swayman.
 
Saw a tweet on the main board from Friedman that Drury is seriously considering Cappy for the NYR HC job. If that’s the case, Rags fans should brace themselves for plenty of no-show first periods, and hold on for dear life turtle mode thirds.

But knowing our luck, he’ll get hired and all of a sudden become some legendary coach that leads them to a historic regular season and the Cup

Even still, and I'm not advocating for him becoming a head coach again, the Islanders were his first head coaching gig in the NHL (and only). He's stayed in the game and has been involved with USA hockey so I'm sure he's learned some things since his time on the island. I wouldn't be shocked if he got a job somewhere and had some success.

Now if there's a guy who embodies the term "Greasy Meatball," it is Jack Capuano.

Yes, they are freaked cause they traded away most of their picks this year for rentals and would like to retain one of the UFA's and get back some picks. I think they believe Swayman can be a #1 with a quality backup. Hopefully it's not Varly....

The teams have been named. Grimaldi was even added to Team USA since this line-up was reported.

Both have space for an addition or two. In fact, Canada can add like 3 Dmen.

Not a single Islander here.

Wonder if any were even asked?

Gallant out at MSG. Blame the coach who went 99-46-19 in 2 years and went to the conference finals last year.

That’s a mighty quick trigger despite any faults he might have. Certainly you can’t blame the performance on the fine collection of underachievers.

That ECF appearance was a fluke. Rags way overachieved that year, get super lucky to get to ECFs with new coach gallant. Set expectations way too high this year. Rags fall back down to earth this year, as expected, maybe underachieve a little, and fire the coach. They should have kept Gallant at least another season to find the median of that team and solidify their identity. Rags made a mistake here, but good for all the other teams in the metro lol

They're a good team, but they probably should have grabbed just one of Kane or Tarasenko. Adding both kinda disrupted their identity a bit.
