Are there different goaltender interference rules for Crosby??? Wow.
When you compare the stuff Lee has been done for....

Carter Verhaeghe is officially a 40 goal scorer..
I never thought he would be this good but I wanted him on the islanders. The same thing we’re seeing from Fasching right now is what I saw in Verhaeghe. Thought he would be just a really good middle 6 winger. No guarantee his career turns out like this if he stayed with the isles but I think it’s a safe bet that he was going to be a solid nhler

When seeing Verhaeghe on TB, I was reminded of Blake Comeau. While he struggled on the Islanders, he wasn’t a bad player when expectations were kept in-line with his abilities.

Verhaeghe now reminds me of how Patrick Sharp developed for the Blackhawks, after leaving the Flyers.

Fine by me I’d be happy making a pick anywhere in the top 20 in this class if we don’t make it.
If we don’t fall to pick 12, we forfeit the pick to Detroit. Pick 13-15 goes to Detroit. That’s why I thought you were insinuating that we’d freefall to pick 12 in your post.

Unless you meant that it looks like we’ll make the playoffs, but you wrote it right after the loss so I don’t think that’s what you meant.

Looks like we’ll be making a draft pick in the first round

Oh goodness, I liked this post because I thought you were being sarcastic.

Please tell us you were being sarcastic...

While I'm at it, I'll remind everyone that we have 2nd, 4th, 5th, 5th, and 7th round picks this summer.

The pick is top 12 protected, if we fall out of the playoffs we keep the pick (with the option to swap with 2024), if we make the playoffs DET gets out 24 1st.

I don’t believe this is true unfortunately.

If we don’t get top 12, AND we don’t make the playoffs, the pick is Detroit’s. We don’t have the option to defer to 2024.

14 teams do not make the playoffs.

There is no option to defer the pick in any case, one way or the other.

If it's a top 12 pick, it's ours. We keep it. Then Vancouver gets an unprotected 2024 pick instead.

If it's not top 12, then this summer's pick goes to Vancouver, which moved it to Detroit in the Hronek trade (which might be contested as Hronek appears to have had an undisclosed injury, but that's none of our business).

The only thing I'm not clear on is "when" it is determined to be a top 12 pick. Is that first AFTER the draft lottery?

That would seem logical, as even pick 14 could move up 10 spots, if I've understood it correctly.

If it's a top twelve pick, say #12, the Islanders can send that to Vancouver if they want to but they don't have to. Anything over #12 and it automatically goes to them.

You've mentioned this before.

I have seen 0 information for or against that statement.

Have you found wording that is different from what I just posted from CapFriendly?

Or are you just assuming that Lou can choose, should it be a top 12 pick?

Because as I understand it, it is ours if it's top 12 and thus, would require a seperate trade to move it to Vancouver or anywhere else, if the Isles would so desire, because the 2024 pick would then automatically be gone.

Do you see what I'm saying?

If it's top 12, it remains our asset while the unprotected 2024 *automatically* goes to Vancouver i.e. Detroit.

There's no option to choose to keep a top 12 pick from this summer OR an unprotected 1st round from next summer.

It's already stipulated.

Ok, I've gotten confirmation on this.

It's first determined by the draft lottery. Should we miss the playoffs, we won't know if the pick is ours or not until after (well, during) the draft lottery.

I think it was Lamoriello who said it in his press conference, I'll go take a look and see if I can find it.
