I think they suffer from what our own team does. Lots of good players, lacking in the elite/top tier area.

Also a big dropoff in talent after Aaron Ekblad. But I think they have enough middle 6 forwards to get to the dance, just not enough to get past the semi's

I was at the Panthers 7-0 drubbing of the Blackhawks last night. I realize that any team can lay an egg on any given night and the Hawks certainly did. But it makes me wonder what the Panthers could have been if Jonathan Huberdeau was healthy all year. Marchessault is up to 27 goals, Barkov has 22. Nick Bjugstad is having a disappointing season. But they have too many talented forwards to be 7 points back this late in the season.

I was at that game too.

The biggest problem with the Panthers this season has been injuries.

Ekblad has been in and out of the lineup with concussions, you already mentioned Huberdeau, and Barkov was out for a decent stretch for a bit too.

They need to get healthy and should be right in the thick of things next year.

Panthers have more forward depth but not an elite player like JT. Isles don't have anyone as good as Eklab on defense.

Barkov's PPG is literally .008 behind Tavares' over the last two seasons while providing Selke defense. He's at the level of Tavares, he just needs to play 70+ games a season.

Tavares at his best is no worse than one of the 10 best players in the league and he almost singlehandedly won a playoff round. He's better than Barkov.

What's amazing is that even though you are a NYI season ticket holder and make the trek out to BC for every game, you also make it to a meaningless FLA-CHI game when you're traveling. You sir love hockey. Impressive.

I'm trying to see each NHL arena. I've been to 9 of the current rinks. I've also been to 8 of the defunct arenas. I used to only travel to see the Islanders on the road. Now I just want to watch hockey whenever I have a free night. NHL, AHL, ECHL, it's all good. If I make a trip north of the border I'd love to see an OHL, WHL or QMJHL game.

Unfortunately being in Florida on Saturday cost me the Isles-Bruins game. It's hard to truly enjoy Panthers-Blackhawks when you're checking your phone every 5 minutes for Islanders updates.

That's very cool. College hockey is pretty fun too.

Don't forget LNAH!!! Hockey in the middle of Nowhere, Quebec with copious amounts of beer and the best poutine imaginable served by hot women.

The Flyers were eliminated from playoff contention last night.

Fun fact: the Flyers are the only team to ever miss the playoffs while having a 10 game winning streak.

I've found the new coach? :sarcasm:

Also, former Islanders prospect John Persson is on that team.

That's an odd decision. The team improved and they weren't exactly expected to really be competitive til next season or the season after

I wonder how much Eichel wanting Bylsma out factored into this. I don't really get the Murray firing myself, the team seems to have been getting better and better since he tore the team apart in 2014

If you watched 10 minutes of any random Sabres game you'd see why this move was long overdue. Team was basically unwatchable. Think last days of Fred Flinstone level bad.

In an interview with Russian journalist Pavel Lysenkov for Sovetsky Sport, Nikita Kucherov offers a blunt analysis of why he had such a good season despite what he feels are failures by the Tampa Bay Lightning coaches and his teammates.

Sergey Demidova, NHL.com reporter for the Russian language version of the site, translated some of the biggest points of contention Kucherov spoke of during the interview.

I wonder if Kucherov just became available. Playing with guys from Europe who were good this was par for the course. They will tear their team mates a new one. I won't say it is a bad idea because it works for a lot of guys across the pond, but usually NA's don't react kindly to blunt honesty.

Maybe he was brutally honest, maybe he was a ******, maybe both. No matter how it came out I doubt this will help their locker room.
