Meh, it's a good site for getting your voice out there. The writers promote each other, the EiCs make a concentrated effort to get views to the site, etc.

Yeah, they could do a better job of setting guidelines of what constitutes an article (so they don't get the mess that WTF no doubt is thinking of), but like a lot of places, they have good writers and bad ones. Doesn't mean much.

It seems like a pretty precipitous fall to go from basically the number one radio guy for an NHL franchise not named Kaiton to the depths of user submitted blog style reporting. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but it's not even close to a lateral move. I hate to see someone get canned, but considering my only real knowledge of his work was being a living embodiment of a facebook fan along with his colorful exchanges with some of the posters here, idc.

There's nothing inherently wrong with sites like the THW (aside from not doing a better job of editing/screening HORRIBLE articles like that stream of consciousness crap from Shiver that's still in his archives), it's just that MM has been vocal in the past about trashing nontraditional media. It's ironic that he's now writing for one.

I was never a fan of the guy, but this is actually a pretty savvy job search move on his part as this isn't his new career. He obviously got blind-sided with the firing so he has no new gig lined up. This s a way to stay connected to and be more visible to those within his favorite sport.

Practicing "laughing hysterically" for when the Canes turn out to be an okay team this season.

The best part to me is that the other fanbases in the Metro are the only ones that seem to be in our corner right now. The seeming reaction out of those guys to the negativity toward us seems to be a collective "are you sure you were watching the same team we were last season? They were already tough to beat and they just upgraded from their worst players everywhere but in net". ESPECIALLY Devs fans are saying this, it's like some sort of parallel universe from The Scary Door.

As always, however, caveats:

1. Youngsters being counted on to produce
2. No regression
3. Somebody has to live up to their potential

For the last 7 years I could probably plug these in as the "hopeful" reasons at the beginning of the year.

4. Avoiding major injuries.

Hey guys, forgive the noob question but where do you guys find/generate those player projection charts based on line designation for the upcoming season? It's difficult to explain, but it's basically an output that uses advanced stats as a predictor for the upcoming season at the bottom by percentages. 10% 1st line, 25% second line, etc.

Meh, most of those that provided a reason for the Canes finishing low (who aren't just blindly posting the same standings from last year) have said that they wouldn't be surprised if the Canes finish much higher than where they have them.

And the reasoning isn't exactly out there. Having a young defense is great, but the chance for regression or a sophomore slump is still very real, and unless our goalies find their game, that could easily spell trouble.

The Metro went 20-10-3 against the Canes last year for a robust 107 point pace.

They probably just heard the ole Columbus narrative of how we have all these good young players, and it's being built right, and in a few years..., etc... more than other people.

But it's nonsense. Barring a fairytale scenario, the Canes should stink. It's obvious they should stink. And the mental gymnastics required to get around that are Rio worthy.

wally bringin' the hammer down early. No sense waiting until training camp to dash any hopes, might as well start now. :sarcasm:

And yes, I do realize this is a bit of the pot calling the kettle black here, but still couldn't resist.
