After Quebec City gets a relocation team (Florida Panthers I am looking in your general direction), there isn't another major market area left in Canada. We are a small country population wise. The only possible other chance is another team in the Toronto area.

But the NHL wants a 16-16 conference split, so Seattle and Las Vegas are for sure the front runners.

I'd say Texas should be on the short list.

Austin is the 8th largest city in the states, and does not have a professional sports team.

** honestly, if I had the money, I would look to build a MLS team in Austin. Wouldn't pay off for a few years, but I could see it thriving their.

Honestly I love the messages that Peters sends to this team. Get injured, don't play. It's that simple. Semin's been enough of an enigma this year that this message is certainly warranted.

it's on the wrong coast (expansion wise), but I always felt Virginia could support a team.

All the Virginian hockey fans I know are already Caps fans. I guess you're running that risk almost regardless of where you expand though- Austin sort of has the Stars, Seattle sort of has the Canucks, etc...

The Admirals do amazing attendance wise though don't they? If they got a pro team, I imagine they'd do equally well.

I think MLS would be a good fit. Not so sure about NHL, though. Austin only has such a large population because the city borders are pretty huge. In terms of metro areas, which is a better way to compare cities, it is 35th in population, just ahead of Nashville and Virginia Beach (Raleigh is 47th). For example, Austin proper has a higher population than San Francisco, but San Francisco has over 2.5 million more people in its metro area.

Austin is growing very fast, though.

I think you're mean "major league" rather than professional. Austin has the Texas Stars and Round Rock Express. Both of those teams are professional, albeit minor league.

Also, OH NOES!!!! http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showpost.php?p=93943141&postcount=359

I always wonder how it is, that all these uninformed troglodytes can get away with making uninformed, asinine posts about all the Southern markets, but when we make similar observations (no matter how informed) about struggling northern teams, we're branded as pariahs and met with untold levels of vitriol. And that's not even counting the fact that the posts//threads are often locked and we're threatened with warnings//infractions.

Because they can't handle the truth.

"Edmonton came real close to moving to Houston one time"

"Oh noes, that was because of this and that and other things, the fans are not at fault there".

But then Florida/Phoenix etc. comes up, it's the fans fault. Always.

TBH, it seems like the southern fans on here spend a more time complaining about being persecuted than they do actually being persecuted. There's like 1 Business board thread where 1 guy speculated that Karmanos might be looking at other markets.

Is it worth anything as news? No. But it's not a vicious attack either.

Just saw on the main board that the Canes had a deal in place to sign Sergei Fedorov in 1998 or 1999 but Detroit matched it. Anyone remember this? I wonder how that would have gone.

Yes, they included a clause that if they reached the conference final he would get a ridiculous bonus. Something the Canes weren't likely to do with or without him and something the Red Wings were a damn near certainty to do (and did).

Yeah, the Fedorov thing was about Karmanos sticking it to Ilitch. There was little chance of the Wings not matching. It was a 6 year deal with a base salary of $2 million a year, but there was a $14 million signing bonus and a $12 million bonus if the team made the Conference Finals, so he made $28 million for around a half a season of play since he had held out the first part of the season. The NHL ruled that the offer sheet violated the CBA, but the Canes appealed and an arbitrator ruled in their favor, which forced the Wings to match it.

Fedorov was my favorite player at the time and I didn't really understand that stuff so I just thought he was about to come to Carolina.

Fugu, izzat you? There's one Business Board thread NOW. That doesn't count all the one-off posts about how crappy a market a Raleigh is, let alone Tackla's continuing vendetta against us. And, of course, all the wonderful posts made during the 04-05 lockout about how we needed to be moved.

Checked are considered Amateur, Panthers and Hornets. Well ok. But yeah. I ment NHL, MLB, NFL

If you mean the Checkers, they are most assuredly not conducted amateur. Minor league, sure, but they're professional players.
