I think you could be looking at a 10-15 point difference if both guys really hit their stride.

I think Kakko definitely has 90 point potential. I'd say Lafreniere's top-end potentially eclipses the century mark. So there is a gap potential gap there.

Now, if people want to compare Lafreniere to Crosby or McDavid, that's a recipe for disappointment.

Would Lafreniere compare to Matthews? similarly built, both old for their draft class, both tipped to be #1 since a year prior. I don't really know how to gauge the Q but he has dominated that league for several years.

Sadly, there are a lot of similarities. The difference is that Andersson may or may not see himself that way, and frankly, something is just off there.
The issues that have presented themselves with Anderson are not the type that can be forced to a conclusion. Frankly, they may never be resolved in his lifetime, only managed. It's best to let him be in a situation that he feels comfortable where he can thrive. Manhattan isn't a good place for him now, and probably won't ever be. I would like to know what the Rangers knew about his issues and when they knew them. If these things were present when the orginization drafted him, or did they manifest themselves as he got older. Mental issues usually present themselves in boys around 18 to 22 years old. as far as we know Anderson was right around that age when things started bubbling up to the surface.

Whatever the case may be, tonight helps soften the blow of what is amounting to be a wasted pick 3 years ago.

Definitely. But, I’ll live with him raising the Cup for us a few times, even if he’s not Crosby or McDavid. I’m funny that way.

yeah, very rare (if ever) that a #1 pick can come to a team and not have to play the savior.

McKenzie hit the nail on the head. It really is a best of both worlds for him.

He can step into a lineup that is pushing toward the playoffs and has some good talent, in their 20s, on the main roster.

Then they have some potential emerging talent on the NHL roster.

Finally, they have guys who are coming through the system like Lundkvist, Miller, Barron, Kravtsov, etc.

He's not hoping aboard the train at the first station. The train already has some steam behind it.

I think Kakko could hit 100 in a peak season if he puts everything together (and I believe he will). The jump I saw between February and the play ins was pretty amazing, and now he gets another four months to focus on working out. He and Laf are only about 4 months apart in age. Kakko wasn’t 19 til February, Laf will be 19 to start the year.

There is really no discussion for me, you draft AL with the #1 and dont think twice. He is the type of player that can bring the most out of his linemates, similar to Panarin. You worry about the center position after you make your 1st pick.

We have a ton of assets to have some maneuverability. Maybe we can get into the top 10 with Buffalo being a desperate team trying to make Eichel happy. Create a package that starts with Strome + +. And/or we use the later 1st to try and move up.

Ideally they find a way to walk away with Lundell.

And then from there, do they pivot and replace Strome with another Center. Nugent-Hopkins? Can they play that angle? Could Lundell step in this year? Does Kreider shift to RW? Do they move Buchnevich for a more north-south player even tho Buch has transformed his game a bit, becoming more physically involved. Josh Anderson? Do they re-sign Fast? I’d love to move Smith to a cap floor team. Buyout Staal. Sign Dillon. Just gona have fun with it for now;

Panarin-Zib-Kakko
Lafreniere-RNH-Kreider
Chytil-Lundell-Buch
Lemmy-Howden-Gauthier

Possible factors/extras; Fast, Lias, DiGi, Kravtsov, Barron

Do they package Buch with Georgiev to get a better forward or a top 4 LD? Don’t think Lias is part of their plans so he could be part of a package. But moving onto D:

Dillon-Trouba
Lindgren-Fox
Miller-DeAngelo
Hajek

Igor
Hank

Lots of decisions to be made. But so many assets to work with.

You needed Kreider for a ton and now think you can add ac$10 million Eichel or soon to be UFA Nugent-Hopkins? Oh, and of course keep Hank.

Salary cap?????

I'll be honest, I closed my computer after HF collapsed so I couldn't post my reaction/insight. But holy shit what a rush!!

I truly can't believe this happened!! Lafreniere is an incredible player. One of two recipients of the Jean Beliveau award for CHL MVP (the other being Crosby). NYR actually will have their very own, homegrown superstar. I'm still in shock.

They need to trade for a center now....

They can afford to overpay if they have to, to get that center.

And should, if that's what it takes.

I know probably not on the radar right now but any chance you think MSG hosts some kind of out door draft party for the draft in october?

Outside chilling, having a beer. Oblivious to everything. 7pm, checked in on twitter on something totally unrelated. Went to the homepage and saw the Rangers tweet "We can confirm". I was like WTF who f***ing got hurt now. Did Kakko get COVID bad? ZBad a concussion? Panarin an amputated leg? Friggin forgot about the lottery after just talking about it yesterday. Wow what a swing in emotion.

Here's a nice read: How does Alexis Lafrenière stack up to other top prospects? - DraftGeek

I would look at Patrick Kane's production and say that Lafreniere's results (not style) could be in that category --- specifically the 2012 and beyond version of Kane where he really started to realize just how good he could be.
