Hes below McDavid (so is the rest of the universe) but right there with the next group of guys.
This is a franchise bell cow and our next captain.
LA fan here in peace, who has been analyzing the top eight for the last two months.
For all the Ranger fans asking how he compares to Kakko...he doesn’t.
He’s very close to Auston Matthews as a winger. Physically talented, polished, and all the drive you could wish for.
OH MY GOD!!!!!!
I think i just broke my hand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I’m still in shock and can’t believe we basically have this guy. Before the lottery, I was speculating that if we won, I would consider making a deal with Ottawa (though I would want AT LEAST #3 and #5). However, now that we actually won, unless a team’s GM has the IQ of a peanut and is willing to give us multiple elite, cost-controlled talent and 1st round picks (which won’t happen), I don’t want to trade Lafreniere and it’s not even close. I mean, he probably has the most value out of anyone in the league other than McDavid. He’s cost-controlled for so many years, he’s probably going to be the best player (that’s on an ELC) in the league, his ceiling is probably just short of McDavid, and he can possibly put up 1st line production immediately, especially if the season begins late. The only problem is that he’s not a center, but oh well. I’m not going to cry about it.
I'm not trying to be argumentative, but do you have expert opinions on that to cite?
Because I keep reading he's a cut below, more like the Kakko/Hughes level.
Which is still great for us.
How much do you think Sheary would ask for? he wouldn't be a terrible third liner with some great experience playing alongside Crosby.
He didn't have a good year. I'd try and give him like $2.5 and see what his camp says.
Suddenly the Lias Anderson debacle doesn't seem so bad now. Just cut that anchor loose and leave it sea.
Rangers need toughness would anyone trade the 1st overall for Ryan Reaves. I think that is fair trade on both sides. We need a tough guy for our young talent. !st overall for Ryan Reaves. we might have to throw in a prospect as well though.
I am only joking of course
What's your take on Kakko then?
Lafreniere - Zibanejad - Kakko
Panarin - DeAngelo
that PP...
Just how good is Alexis Lafreniere?
While Lafreniere isn’t going to score 90 points in his rookie season, he may very well reach that in year two or three. With his skill set, combined with all the projections, Lafreniere is a special talent that I think can grow, quite quickly, into one of the premier players in the NHL. He may never reach that Crosby or McDavid echelon, but he can come pretty close.
Who is Alexis Lafreniere? Canadian forward consensus first-overall pick in 2020 NHL draft | Sporting News
"A gifted and versatile scoring winger with outstanding hockey sense and the ability to elevate his game when the situation calls for it, Lafreniere possesses many traits that scream elite and potential NHL superstar. From his deadly wrist shot to his superior playmaking and vision, the St. Eustache native checks every block imaginable when it comes to possessing the puck. What makes Lafreniere unique, however, is his insanely high compete level, tenacity on the puck, physicality, and selflessness. Play him on a line with equally heralded or accomplished prospects, and he’ll make it a point to tap into their strengths rather than make himself the center of attention." — Steve Kournianos, The Draft Analyst
One of the things I said about Hughes last year, and a reason I had him ahead of Kakko, was his ability to raise the play of everyone around him. I talked about how lines fall into place around him, match-ups fall into line around him, everything shifts because he is on the team.
Lafreniere has that exact same ability, and then some.
If this kid fulfills his potential, his presence will resonate through the entire roster.

It sucks that he isn't here trying to grow into a Mike Ricci role.
