I haven't been able to relax for the past 5 hours as I'm so excited and stoked at what happened tonight. So I've been watching a ton of videos of Lafranier on YouTube and listening too all these scouting reports about him.

Of all the things I watched the one that really hit home the most was the comment from Craig Button who is the Director of Scouting for TSN. Button said all these great things about Laf and that the comparable that he would use to describe the impact Laf will make was Mikko Rantanen!!.

When he said that I was like "holy shit". A Rantanen type player coming to our team for basically "free" and all because of just basically dumb luck is absurdly good fortune for us.

For shits and giggles, I decided to go over to our main rivals boards...ie Devils, Islanders, Flyers, Penguins and I specifically been reading their forums from the 6:16 PM mark on all their "around the NHL" or "2020 draft" threads and the consensus words I read on all their boards were "FU*#!!!....Mother Fu#$%&!!!!....I hate the Rangers!!!....you get the picture. I love when I read shit like that cause you know something very good happened for us....lol

It was laugh out loud funny to read this stuff. The Islander and Devil boards were in particuarly hilarious because both boards were hoping and praying it wasn't us who got the #1 pick but that they thought it probably was going to happen as it was the worst possible scenarios for both teams that we got Lafrenier to add too all this other ridiculous talent we have.

Oh man...it's going to be hard to sleep tonight. What a great great day for Ranger Nation!!. And yeah we deserve it after all the BS we have had to go thru with just one stinken Cup in 80 years. I do believe the hockey gods have forgiven us for whatever it is we did too piss them off over the years cause this is just crazy unreal luck we've had the past two years. We need to take advantage of it now and I do believe Gorton is starting to think about what chips he needs to move in order to get a #2 center. What a great great day!!.

For the talk about being too heavy on the wings I think in today’s NHL just having the most forward talent possible overall regardless of position is the most important thing.

Plus look at how the Hawks won multiple cups with Kane as their best player, the second two cups he dragged Handzus and Richards around as his centers. Having a truly dynamic winger to carry their line can work.

I’d strongly consider trying to mold Kravtsov into a center. If not I think Buchnevich might be dangled for a center upgrade. Even if not, Chytil can take the step to being a 2c if he has elite wingers helping him along.

This forward talent is crazy.

Anyone in that range that has 2nd line center potential?

I think if you move up a bit you might be able to catch a sliding Lundell. Failing that, maybe Jarvis can play center, or Mercer.

If not one of the those guys, that Russian with a K - Khusnutdinov I think - sounds like a good one to roll the dice on.

Still pass on Holloway.

Ok, without a legit #2 center on this team and lets for the sake of argument say we don't get one are we likely going to be a contender in a couple of years?

It has long been my position that we cannot sleep on the Zibanejad question. He's had concussions, he was a late bloomer, he's already 27.

If we have designs on being a contender "for a decade," (when Mika would be 37 but Kakko and Lafreniere only like 28-29) then there has to be another top center option in the fold, and now is better since later it will only be harder to acquire.

That task got easier today because you can win with a Derek Stepan as your #1 center, maybe, when he's got 80 point Kakko on one side, 90 point Lafreniere on the other, and Panarin flanked by Kravtsov on a second line.

But nonetheless, I think it's important to get another center now. We don't know for sure what Chytil is. We don't need to have Crosby/Malkin but if Zibanejad were to get injured or to prematurely decline, without having at least kind of a Getzlaf type in there, that could be trouble.

Lundell is a perfect candidate. Defensively responsible, intangibles, seems to have the potential to be a #1 while being a safe bet as a high level #2.

But I've maintained that guys like Strome and Buch are meaningless to us long term. They only mattered if you were trying to win in 2019 and 2020, which we shouldn't really have been doing.

It all paid off today, but it made Buch and Strome even less important. They need to be liquidated with whatever else, Georgiev included, to get like a sub-23 year old center who can be 1-2 or 1a-1b with Zibanejad down the middle.

Keller? Nylander? Zegras? Lundell? I'm open to suggestions. I'm not open to saying "F it, we have Zibanejad, and Chytil will be the #2." We don't know that.

My man.

Laf+Jarvis or Khusnutdinov would be an amazing draft. Literally wouldnt care how the rest of the picks go.
