I think we are capable of that but I fear Gallant will try to turn this into a track meet and we will lose. If we tighten up and play the physical game we are capable of we should win (provided Shesterkin looks like he did the last month).
I don't think Gallant will do that. We are 4th in GAA.

Let's stop worrying too much before game 1 even starts.

Elliotte Friedman said the Rangers will have trouble with the Devils speed.

The Rangers need to hit the smaller Devils forwards at every opportunity to slow them down. Not run around looking for hits.

This is a tough matchup for us.

My one positive is that if we can get away with winning this series, we shouldn't come out of it too banged up because the Devs aren't as physical as some of the other possibilities.
That and the players will be able to live at home and not in hotels/airplanes

I think we are better and stronger from last playoffs. We have a 4th line which can pass for a 3rd line, added guys like Tarasenko and Mikkola for depth. if we can slow down the Devils rush game, we will be able to beat them.

You know what shocks me going into the playoffs,... Is how Boston had more wins than any team in NHL history, when they have the same team as last year. Same forwards, same D, same goalie tandem. What gives?

I don't see how they are world beaters. But they do know how to play D, I'll give them that.

I remember last offseason prediction thread a lot of people have them missing the playoffs.

I think the big difference for us heading into this year's playoffs as opposed to last year, is not Patrick Kane or Tarasenko or the Kids getting older, it's the health of our star player Panarin. He won't admit it or use it as an excuse, but he did hint that he was not 100% last year at this time. And it showed, in the 2nd and 3rd rounds last year. He says he feels great this time around but more importantly, is showing it on the ice. His turnovers have dropped significantly, and he is shooting the puck more. A clear sign he is feeling it.

We know Kreider, Zibad, Trocheck and Fox will produce, but we will need Panarin's magic , if we are to have successful run.

I'm not discounting what the Kids will bring. We will need all 4 lines chipping in, and I feel good that they will. But there's no way we will have success if Panarin sleepwalks through these playoffs. He needs to be the Star he has been since he got here.

Hitting is good, but puck management and staying above the puck is the answer. That will slow the devils down.

Get our bottom 6 to cycle below the goal line.

Then you can start taking chunks out of them. But if we start throwing cross ice passes all over the NZ and fail to get picks in deep, all will be for naught. Get it deep, make the Devils D turn around. Then win netfront.

Not exactly some revolutionary strategy as it’s literally how to play every opponent at all times. But I think what makes both teams so dangerous is the ability to capitalize on limited high danger chances.

Can we clean things up enough to play that way for 60 min? Can we limit the high danger chances? Can we keep them outside of our slot area?

We shall see if our aptitude for detail oriented hockey is high enough.

We have been clogging the slot area very well. The problem will be turnovers giving them rush chances. But as you said, playing a more simplified game, getting it deep, getiing it out, taking away time and space as playoff hockey tends to be, are the keys to success. If we play our stingy game, we will be tough to beat.

Look for our Captain to set the tone early with a monster hit. Miller will exert his dominance and punish people also. He is gonna surprise many and be a force to be reckoned with. A star in the making.

I just, and maybe you guys can help me, don't understand the bitchin about Trouba and labeling him a dirty player like the Devils fans are. Has he ever been suspended? Stevens threw some of the most vicious hits in history that were headshots. Yet here they are, 20 years later, whining about hard body checks. Is it because they have a small team and they fear the ever lovin crap outta him?

Wow took a quick peak over at the Devils board, they think they already have this one wrapped up. For a team that has been to the playoffs once in the past 10 years, and never won a playoff series in that span, its pretty incredible they are talking like its already over. Clearly been a while for them to remember what playoff hockey is like
I despise their fanbase more than the Isles, and I never thought I'd be sayin that. At least we acknowledge NJ has a good team and will be good for a while. It pains me to even believe that. With them, they are incapable of being impartial.

Puck management is the key to this series. They need to move the puck with a purpose and control it. Cannot turn the puck over in the neutral zone or near the blue line.

The Rangers have one of the deepest forward groups in the league. We literally have 9 top 6 F and 2 more top 9 F. Our 4th line is one of the best in the league.

The Devils thrive off the transition game but their D are small and speedy, gotta get the puck in on them and establish a physical presence offensively. That extra half second of delay they make could be the difference in the series.

I’m fairly confident going into this series. I think the Devils are in for a rude awakening but who knows maybe they’ll be ready to go. Either way it should be another roller coaster

Gotta talk about something.

Trouba is an easy topic to grab onto. No need to actually understand the game each team plays.

It's like the "Kreider hits goalies" thing.

The Rangers have the better goalie, better forward group, better defense core. We are more physical and experienced, with X-factors like Tarasenko & Kane.

It's a playoff series between divisional rivals so it wont be easy, but under no circumstance should we lose this series. The "bad matchup" wont matter by game 2 when both teams start making adjustments. Rangers in 6.

Its a fan base that only crawls out of their hole when the team doesn’t suck.
