Exactly. And the flipside is that the Rangers have gone .500 (almost) against them during the last 4 or so years.
The thing about hockey is that you never can say exactly what happened. Jarry did not look solid to me tonight, yet all I heard about here was how bad Pavelec looked even though Pavelec stopped the regular stuff and more.
That's hockey. A million different opinions.

Jarry had a good first period but had some shaky moments after that. Pavelec looked kind of uncertain all night but managed to make enough stops for the win

It's obvious how big a loss Zibanejad is on that first line, even though Desharnais has done an admirable job. But that line hasn't been good since he got hurt.

Pavelec was great tonight, even with the posts.

That line was the only reason we almost beat Florida.

But, yeah, you're not wrong overall. Desharnais is awesome depth for injuries, clearly, but we need the DJ back. Just hope the concussion doesn't derail his level of play.

With how little pavelec has played you have to expect him to look shaky at times. This was a HUGE game for him to prove himself to his teammates and coaches. And he got a big time win. Did he have a little luck? Sure but sometimes you need it. He certainly didn’t against fla when Holden cost him the game.

What a lucky win. It's always nice to beat the Pens, but holy hell we are terrible in our defensive zone. That man on man defense was always a problem, but now we have some guys playing man, some playing zone, and some playing cover no one. So many forwards are completely lost in the defensive zone. Not to mention our defensemen. How often do two guys (or more) peel off chasing a guy and leave another guy wide open in front of the net? It's just poor coaching and communication. Thank god for those posts and our fortune tonight. Nice to steal a couple of points.

Agreed DB as despite the 4 or so posts, this was IMO Pavelec's best game in a Ranger uniform.

He'll never be Raanta or Prince Cam as he simply isn't as talented as the two of them, but if he can play like he played tonight, it would be a huge boost for the team.

That said, Hanky...please please get back between the pipes like PRONTO!!....

Don't know about y'all but I'm feeling pretty dang good about where we are at with 2/3rd's of the season left to go considering we started the damn season a shocking 1-5-1.

Right now we are 15-10-2 one point back of the 2nd WC slot which Caps hold and just 4 pts behind the surprising Debbies for the #1 spot in Metro.

Seeing I am am from the Einstein school of mathematics that makes us 14-5-1 since that horrific start of ours.

Maybe I'm living in Pollyanna world but I think we are in prime position to have a very very awesome season and you'd never ever think this reading some of the comments from some brothers in here. If I was in a coma for let's say a few weeks and hypothetically I woke up and read some of the stuff I read on our board on a daily basis, I would seriously think we would be 12-13 points behind the current #1 seed in the Metro and our season would be in the dumpster.

Newsflash to those of y'all who think our warts are worse than other teams in our conference and division......THEY AREN'T. Our Rangers have just as good a chance to win the Metro as anyone tho I'd admit the Penguins likely will end up ahead of us.

My original projection that we end up when all is said and done as the #3 seed in the Metro remains very much in tact behind the Pens and Jackets and I'm not totally thinking we can't catch the Jackets who have warts of their own when it's all over. I'm sure our bud Torts wouldn't be thrilled about that but screw him...haha.

Bottom line and I know this might piss off the Debbie Downers and Negative Nancy's in the crowd here but our Rangers will be making the playoffs warts and all.

Let it be written...let it be done as some dude Pharaoh Ramses said in that flick some of y'all might have heard of and watched "The 10 Commandments" we will somehow, someway make the playoffs like we always do and be a force to be reckoned with once we get there, not a doubt in my mind about this......

If guys like Chytil, De'Angelo, Pionk, among others, can force their way onto the roster, I'll feel pretty good about the team headed into playoffs.

I'm never gonna fully buy into an AV led team winning the cup, though. Until he goes out and does it.

Three stars: 1. McDonagh 2. Fast 3. Pavs

We did benefit from the iron tonight, but we also had a ton of scoring chances that didn't go.

The hit posts don't bother me. They're just shots that missed the target. A shot that hits the post is no different than a shot that misses wide by a couple inches. Goalies are paid to stop shots on goal, not shots that miss.

Surprised I'm not seeing Skjei get more love tonight. Kid was an absolute stud tonight, and is starting to embrace that "rover" role that Sam and Joe love to use re: Zach Werenski. Kid had some unreal rushes up ice and really smart passes in the offensive zone to keep play going. Thought the 4th line was really good again too, especially Boo and Fast

yup. quietly becoming my favorite player. he pretty much does it all and his ability to create from the back end with rushes and pretty moves/passes makes him an offensive force.

good for boo. congrats on your first. local boy makes good. quicky is consistently excellent.

lucky win but those happen just like unlikely losses.

It's a matter of a personal perspective. While these shots obviously don't show up on the stat sheet, to me these are like corsi stats - i.e. indicators that the next time around when a goalie will be beaten like that it would be a goal against.

It's good for Pavelec to get a win with a bunch of saves, but from an eye test perspective he didn't look comfortable, at least through the first half of the game. Was it rust? Maybe, but being in a role of a back-up it shouldn't matter. Allowing 4 shots to get through you this close in addition to 3 GA will get you a loss next time around. IMHO

Ignoring the first few games, I think Skjei hás been our best defenseman this year. Yeah, Mcdonagh included.
