Totally agree. You take care of your own end first, then counter. Girardi fell and made a bad decision, granted. That still doesn't excuse there being ZERO support. You can go into transition when you are dead sure the puck is out. But McDonagh was ahead of himself before he should have been. And I can't even watch it again, but who was it, Pouliot, who just completely abandoned the zone and let Williams walk in?

This is the NHL. You expect players to make routine plays with the puck coming right to them. There is no excuse for Girardi's play there and even if he couldn't get it to McDonagh because it bounced on him there's still no excuse for him randomly throwing it to the point.

McDonagh is to blame because he assumed that a professional hockey player and first pair defenseman could not stay on his feet and get the puck out of the zone when nobody was within 30 feet of him in any direction. McD is doing what AV wants, going up the left side with speed to catch the Kings in an odd-man rush. Girardi screws it up. It is on him and on nobody else.

Tough break. Despite our less than desirable 3rd period, we still had a chance to win in OT, or even Hags breakaway with less than a minute to go.
Regroup and come out strong for game 2.
Just a reminder, theres a reason both these teams are in the Stanley Cup Final.
Lets go Rangers!

Scratching anyone would just be stupid unless its someone like Dorsett who doesn't do much to begin with. You stick with what you've got, and you just expect your players to be better. Richards, Staal, Nash and St. Louis have been lost out on the ice recently. Nash and St. Louis haven't been lost that long. Maybe only two or three bad games in a row. Richards and Staal have been lost for the seven or eight games. I really expect a lot more from Staal.

All about match ups and bounces..

“@PLeonardNYDN: Girardi: Tried to make a play up the middle & it bounces & I kind of get to one knee, was thinking to get it up the wall but he was there.”

Quality description Dan.

The bottom line is that Hank HAS TO steal the series...He plays close to perfect then we have a chance at least but even tonight with an awesome third we still lose. It sucks but it s all on him...that is New York Ranger hockey as we know it...gnite all

Staal was once good. His game hasn't been the same since the eye injury.

He was our best defensemen 3 weeks ago. I don't know what the **** happened. He just makes really stupid plays. I get nervous every time he's on the ice now. I don't know if we can win this series with him playing like this.

Translation: There were 3 Kings within a 25 foot radius, so I decided to send the puck through there instead of using the remainder of the entire defensive zone to move the puck.

Why didn't Dan just take the puck and skate behind the net after missing it. So frustrating to lose like that. Oh well, we will bounce back.

LOL at scratching Klein.

Let's scratch a competent RHD so that what? Girardi can get more ice time?

McDonagh and Stralman are the only competent puck movers we have. Are people just realizing this. We can't scratch every single other defenseman.

Dorsett played just fine, I thought. Fourth line guy playing well.

Forwards just need to be more decisive with the puck. They lose the advantage of their hard-earned entrance and possession in the Kings zone when they think they are going to turn some highlight reel play. On the other hand, you could tell by their play that the officials simply told them all 'touch a goalie in the paint and you are in the box".
Worked both ways, so I am not complaining.
First period - Very Good on offense.
Second period - saw-off with neither team really dominant
Third period - Rangers push near the end, but mostly they stopped dong what they did in the First period. No, it was not anything that the Kings did differently from what I could see. Proof? They pushed near the end of the Third period. Waiting for....what?

Cannot wait for Game 2. Saturday. What a stupid gap between games.

Seriously, no more passes across the slot

Nice! Is that a Voltaire reference?

Yeah, way too many passes looking for the perfect layup. We need shots. Quick isn't THAT good that we need to razzle dazzle. Just shoot, ask questions later.

Yes.

Quick's glove hand looked pretty damned good to me.
