How has "honest roster building" worked out? We have done a masterful job drafting and acquiring support pieces. The problem is that we have no elite players to lead the way.

We are the most unskilled team in the league and it's finally catching up. While we are counting down the days to draft night, the Oilers, Blackhawks, Leafs and Penguins will be gunning for the Cup on deep playoff runs.

But at least we can hang our hats on doing it the honest way. We can even go into the GDT on the mains and tell their fans that we are actually the ones who deserve the multiple Stanley Cups and the generational talents. What a bunch of nonsense.

Forget about the lottery.

We're gonna start winning some games if we keep playing like we have been.

Lundqvist being able to stop a ****ing zorb ball would help
This is what Lundqvist is now. Very inconsistent from game to game and often within games. That will not be enough to get this middling roster into the playoffs. Father time takes his toll on everyone eventually. This is a young man's league now.

Outside perspective from a Flyers fan...Lundqvist has been so good for so long and covered up so many sins and he can no longer do it. I’ve read these boards for years and would laugh when I would read guys would jump all over and criticize Lundqvist...as a Flyers fan most of you don’t realize what you’ve had.

I thought you might get one more year with this squad due some talent up front and Lumdqvust in net but the defense has just seemed to fall apart. Looks like you guys will be going through what we’ve gone through over the past few years. Good luck.

A .905 isn't taking an elite roster to the playoffs.

Hank has a ~.920 SV% as 5v5. Should be a bit higher (most top goalies right now are hovering around .950).

Where he is struggling right now is medium danger shots. He has an .848 MDSV% at 5v5.

That is not good and won't get this team anywhere fast.

Fun fact, according to Corsica, he and Price are the only ones (of goalies who have played minimum 200 minutes) with sub-.900 MDSV%

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

I don't think that's fair this early in the season. Lots of good goalies are sporting pretty bad save percentages right now.

I do think he needs to be better...he's doing a weird thing where he's making quite a few real big saves but letting in some others that you think "you gotta stop that if you're stopping all these other ones". Is it age? It is shot confidence? Dunno.

Honestly both the team and he seem to be playing a bipolar game of doing a lot of good stuff but making a fair number of real bad mistakes that end up in the net. Cutting down on that stuff will result in wins

How does this October compare to his other Octobers, aside from the one good one he had a year or two ago?

He historically sucks in October.

Not to mention the first six games was the Rangers usual October, only without the 200 PDO.

DeAngelo's PDO is ridiculously terrible (before last game not sure what it is now) can only imagine how awesome he'll be when that normalizes!

Creeping up towards middle of the pack in xGF%, very poor PDO.

Near the top in xGF. Still near the bottom in xGA. Giving up too many quality chances.

Has a lot to do with the system. Roster is strong. I'm still willing to be patient.

If they can find the line to walk between "making a ton of horrible mistakes" and "knowing when to cheat and when to cover their responsibilities" things could take off pretty quick but it's pretty bad to watch in the meantime and the record sure isn't good.

Also, Shattenkirk and Smith are creeping towards net positive in xGA.

Skjei continues to spiral out of control. Really not sure what's happening there.

The record sucks, but they would be 3-5 if they had a f***ing ounce of luck and that's very manageable.

With the amount of roster turnover that happened this offseason, I'm willing to be patient too.

With that amount of turnover and change in player responsibilities, I would almost say it's on par with AV's first year coming in and a pretty much set roster having to deal with a new coach/system.

We'll see by mid-November where this team is truly at.

And that start really sucked, and so did our analytics.

I'm pretty sure we were a top 4 CF% team from December 1st on.

The biggest thing right now for me, that has to change, is those weird periods where we just die.

Lately, the analytics are getting better because we're dominating 40 minutes of the game. But a lot of damage can be done in those 20 minutes we spend being an AHL team.

And there's no middle ground between the good and bad periods.

EDIT: Oh and 20-51-10 has to go. They've actually found a Kreider line that's totally ineffective which is f***ing hard to do.

I don't even know what is causing those bad 20 minutes, because those periods can be any of the three. It's never the same one regularly, although I think the second is more of a culprit than the first or third. Or it's even split between periods sometimes.

That makes it more confusing to me and I can't think of a reason as to why it happens. Nothing logical comes to mind. I don't think that's even on AV at that point, especially if it happens mid-period.

The zone exits and goaltending become mites level... let's not hold back really. It is visually painful

Can the people who keep saying our season is over, explain why they keep lumping the Oilers in with true contenders category? They have the same amount of points as us right now. And All-Star players fail to drag their teams into the playoffs all the time.

On a different tanget I would be fine with AV staying if he’d just stop being stubborn and change the defensive scheme to a zone and actually play our best players. But if he wants to keep forcing a square peg into a round hole, then we have no more use for him.

Who says that? And what does the one thing have to do with the other?

 This is literally AV for 2 years now.

First part. The point was they keep getting mentioned as a great team who is still seen as a contender this season and they’ve played like crap and maybe last years success was the outlier (like the Avs a couple of years ago). And maybe we can get into November before we write off this season.

Part two. I’m aware. Which is why I’m fine if he’s fired and would have been fine with him being let go after the Ottawa series.

Not for nothing, but this is essentially saying "I'd be fine with AV if he coached completely differently".

AV is a big problem, but why does Gorton escape blame?

He set up a win now roster (otherwise there's no way two of the biggest free agents on the market towards age 30 are signing with us), yet the team is so bad that its actually a team that might contend for the top pick. So it seems like he unintentionally made the team very bad, does that not cause alarm? The guy tried to make the team better, and instead made it even worse?

This is not all on AV. There is no forward depth, the defense can't defend, the goaltending is mediocre. Its not a good hockey team. Its not all AV's fault. If we make this all about AV, I think we'll be back in a similar position next season.

This roster isn't bad. Not sure what roster you're looking at.

They're just not at all playing up to their abilities.
