Appreciate how you rep and went to bat for the fan base here @Kcoyote3!

I also have to say, Sheg made some good points with his pushback around Mukh.

Good stuff all around!

PS: one of these days you’ll have to ask Sheng why he refuses to say Askarov’s name correctly. He slipped and said it correctly at the 1:16:48 mark (yes, I went back and checked, I was that surprised), so we know he CAN do it. But then he went back to his weird Ask-SCARE-ov minutes later. What’s up with that??
It's very North American English. I don't think think most European languages do a=long e sound.

Predictions:
Keegan and Zubair want Stenberg
Sheng wants Reid or Verhoeff
Would kill to know what Boyler thinks but he'd probably say "I'd have to watch the kids more" and punt
Self evaluation:
Maybe half credit for Keegan, who would pick Stenberg but for HIS HWH team which is totally different (don't you have Hutson already!?)

Zero points to me for Zubair, because he and I are twins and want Reid or Smits (and I similarly am very split)

N/A for Sheng because he didn't really say what he thinks, but does think it's between Reid, Smits, or Carels (God help me)

1000.6769 bonus points for Boyler's answer which was "have any of you guys even watched any of these prospects? I have no idea"

FWIW Button's lists are ridiculous but here he sounded very grounded and logical. The "tiers" aren't that strong this year, you pick D because it's not that easy to acquire a top pair D and these guys are great prospects. Maybe Malhotra if you think he's your perfect 3C for 10-15 years but even then, probably D.

And pretty much that's also what the podcast guys all said.

I liked what Button was saying re: Malhotra too, if you have too many guys competing for top 6 roles it starts getting a little intense and I understand the idea would be to then trade Misa, but it feels like I’d rather just draft the young D guy of the future now instead of getting a guy so I can trade another guy.

And he said and others have said ... As we have seen with many other top "busts" including Nemec, Schneider ... RD high picks retain value and are better centerpieces for a future 1D blockbuster than scoring wingers. Doesn't feel right to draft Malhotra for the trade value either. Stenberg if you think he's Zetterberg, Reid or Smits otherwise. For me, the D.

Yeah, it’s where I’ve settled too. Smits, as I wrote somewhere else, is interesting just because he’s more ready but.. I don’t think Grier’s in a rush.

Stenberg or Reid? Button on Who San Jose Sharks Should Draft | Boyle on Signing Raddysh EP 128

im on board with Reid or another D potential with Button and the crew.

same with Boyle trading for Werenski with this year 2OA or even Misa altho much prefer the former assuming he extends. move smith to 2C. that's a norris contender, how was that even a debate especially with sheng bringing up his own bad take earlier vs Boyle on this. Boyle was right both times lol. imagine they were in PO knocked out first round instead of picking 2OA... zubair makes good point we still need time for the team to mature but if a Norris contender or elite D comes free, that's a very fair deal for 2OA or high potenti but young 1/2C...

had to dropoff from the TOR writer discussion. it's really simple, he's like their tabloid guy who writes like a fan to get views and it worked bec it blew up. it's entertainment in the largest CAN market with every fan angered by decades of incompetence. almost an hour to hear Sheng on a pulpit no one needed. no one is asking sheng to be confrontation with the Sharks like another Kurz, but its fair to ask what warso sees in Delly/Muk that led to their playing time for example... worst part about the pod is when Sheng talks. he makes some good points but man some of his takes and delivery is so grating. everyone else are good tho, imo.

i like Sheng's insider input and most of his analysis but he's stubborn and he rambles really badly when he digs in. i've had professors/managers who would turn a 30 minute meeting into an hour long meeting just to hammer away at the same point.

Thing is, he's just not ideal for a podcast host. Aside from being able to have an actual former NHL player on the podcast (which adds a depth that you can't get otherwise), being able to have four different voices on the podcast allows it to be more of a conversation where different viewpoints are shared.

His best moments are almost always when they have a guest on like Craig and he asks questions and gives the guest space to make their points.

I quite like Sheng, I think his analysis is good and I think he thinks like a reporter and it makes the podcast sound, well, like a professional is in charge. He talks to scouts, other reporters, he has real insider knowledge and pursues leads and so on. I think it would be significantly weaker without him, actually. Sure, he can talk a lot, but it’s fine.

Honestly, they just need an actual editor to cut the episodes and not use AI. Every good podcast has a good editor attached to it.

On the other hand, I find it nearly impossible to listen to Locked On.

Yeah, but at the end of the day, a podcast format lives or dies on how well the speakers can hold your attention and Sheng is not a natural speaking talent. Writing is where his talents lie that allows the rest to shine.

Yeah, I never listen to the other podcasts at all, but then I'm not really a podcast guy. I drive my wife crazy running these things at 2X speed with the captions on because I don't have two hours I want to kill. I just want to get the information within as quickly as possible. I'd almost always rather read an article than listen to any podcast.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only person who actually listens to the podcast instead of watching. It helps a lot if you're out for a walk/jog/hike or driving around, imo. No offense, but I don't need to look at these guys' faces!

Oh yeah I don’t think I’ve ever watched them on YouTube, I listen on drives.

Totally, but as someone who makes a large variety of content for work, you’ll be surprised how much a good editor makes the difference between something being watchable and not.

After listening the latest Podcast for the first time although I have listened to a few minutes other times I do have to say our HF Sharks Board guy has a great voice for radio even a face for video though Sheng has neither LOL but Sheng is a pro host that runs a good show though as you guys say he has his stubborn takes.

2X speed with the captions!

Reading is so much faster than waiting for someone to say words out loud.

I agree. He can be funny and he’s a pretty good producer in that he knows how to pick good topics, get interesting guests, etc. but solo host he is not.
I honestly can't think of the last time I listened to a solo-host podcast. I mean, maybe I could try it as a cure if I ever have insomnia, but I don't care about the topic—I need conversation/discussion in this medium.

It's nice that Sheng has realized the primo asset he has in Keegan with this new SJHN YouTube membership, but it really should be folded into the website, because as I said before, I ain't doing this shit through YouTube.

But seriously, even with the addition of Boyler, Keegan has low-key been the MVP of this podcast since he joined. And no, I'm not just trying to suck up to him here! (Not tagging him—don't tell him and let his ego get too big from all this praise, lol.)

But we can be the dude drafting a dude to replace a dude that we can trade for another dude!

Everything on the Locked On network is super click-bait-y. It's hard for me to click on any of their branded casts.

I only listen as well, typically when doing dinner prep or something. Always on 1.5 speed since the pod tends to run long (not a bad thing though imo)

The one pro tip I have is to not have a drinking game based on taking a shot anytime Sheng says "also, too" you will die.

Agreed, Keegan is awesome! Not just on the pod, but in person as well! Good human!

Thanks everyone

If you want to overdose on liquor, take a shot every time JD says “type of thing.” You’ll be dead in the first 10 minutes.
