He’s been a better player than Young these last 4 years. And Sweat won’t want top 4 DE money to resign.

Yep, for sure…..and? Still doesn’t mean we sign Young to a stupid deal now…..

Young and his daddy can want all they want….his performance will dictate his comp quite simply. Hell he might be gone either way.

Can't wait to see the not all pro players those picks turn into. NFL trades involving draft picks outside of the first round are always one sided because of the obscene value placed on picks. We should just pay the players we have that we're already sure have talent. We've got a ton of cap space next season.
It’s not about the picks definitively turning into players, it’s about capturing value for an asset you’ll lose for nothing in a few months. A lottery ticket is better than not playing at all even if the chances of hitting are low.

And come on Bears, tank tank tank.

I guess we’re keeping Chase

Do we get more picks if sweat extends with the Bears I knew that something I read we were looking at

Sweat was great here. Terrific player and by all accounts and a great teammate and person. If he was 24 I’d say re-sign him but he’s 27 and they got what they could for him which frankly is a lot. Very good chance that’s a top 40 pick. It’s a great return and comparing it to what they paid for him ignores the fact that they got multiple years of service for him and were still able to recoup a meaningful asset for him.

Young needs to step up now to show he’s worth investing in.

I always kinda looked at Sweat as being Mannish, solid, not spectacular, with flashes of that. Young could be Manley, but thus far he’s been Boyley. Now it’s up to whomever to decide Young’s fate.

At least the all first round line, line, can be filed away never to be heard again. Like after the Wall trade, I no longer had to endure that Stephen Peat awful CSNW puff piece that aired every other commercial break. Although it took them almost a month to stop it.

So good job Ron and FO?
Would be interesting to know who pulled the trigger on this since that new guy was hired this week. Also, Harris’ 76ers traded James Harden this morning so maybe he woke up and chose violence.

Sweat will flourish elsewhere just like Preston Smith did. The defense here has been a sum less than the whole of its parts for most of JDR’s tenure with the last eight weeks of 2020 being the primary exception.

Still doesn’t come close to matching what they gave up to draft Sweat. It’s a decent return.

They gave up a 2nd to move up from their own 2nd, but they did that trade to get four years of Sweat and they got really good value there, compared to other draft picks. Now they're getting a high 2nd back for 9 games of Sweat. Overall the value differential isn't the issue I have with it. Its the simply awful overall team building direction of this front office lead by RR. Sweat is a all pro caliber star if he's on a well coached defense. But the defense is sooo poorly coached overall, he's part of the "sum is less than the parts" equation here.

We still have an opportunity to resign him but as a UFA it will be expensive. I doubt he stays with the Bears. I guess they could tag him, but really?

Silver lining ..

- we should rotate fresh guys in more now, Obada hopefully is ready (played our front 4 a lot)
- perhaps blitz and not have the "our 4 will beat your 5" mind state

edit -- why did the Bears do this? They have a ton of cap space for next year but idk.

Odd.
