Howell's getting hit because he has a couple problematic issues, EB's playcalling has been dodgy, and the O-line sucks rocks. No football mind on the planet can untangle that combination of issues and 100% diagnose who exactly is to blame. When your offense is this dysfunctional with this many suspect pieces and leadership, all you can do is keep raising the talent level year-to-year.

And yet amid all that dysfunction, you have a QB that's averaging 250 yards a game, throwing more TDs than picks, doing his part to keep the team competitive more often than not, showing toughness and leadership by keeping his composure and not pointing fingers, displaying a lot of arm talent, and somehow seems okay despite getting hit more often than a boxer with no arms.

What's not to like?

If Howell had the talent and systems around him that Purdy does, we wouldn't be looking at him as a problem and would be planning to build around him. If only wishing made it so.

The book on this kid is that he's a film junkie with crazy work ethic, and he's clearly not a dummy. So if he can get the right coaches around him, I don't think there's any reason he can't fix his pre-snap reads and sack tendencies. His brain, physical tools, and character all seem to be on point.

I'm not sold on EB at all, however. Talk about him as HC in DC makes me nervous as hell. It's obvious that RR and JDR need to be jettisoned, but it's crucial that we get a serious head coach. Hopefully someone established. It was encouraging to hear Payton talk last year about how attractive the DC job would be once the ownership situation was resolved. I really hope that's true because the leadership vortex in Washington is glaring.

I’d trade Sweat and resign Young.

Sweat is obv more valuable “right now”, so he should get more in a trade.

He should also get a larger contract than CY99. But I’ve actually been pretty impressed w Young the past few games. He seems to be dialing it in. We forget how few actual games he’s played.

Shrug.

Get the best offers for both, and then deal whichever player get said best offer. I’d wager it will be Sweat. And send him anywhere. I don’t care IF it’s in the division. Just get the best damned deal you can.

Yeah, I don't really get the dissatisfaction with Young. His knee was injured in two different ways, which means it's likely he was playing injured prior to the one that took him out long term. It takes a minute to get back to game shape and get the timing right and reflexes all dialed in, but his game has been coming together. If he can stay healthy, I am more than happy to keep him, and it's way premature to say durability is an issue.

I haven't seen anything from EB that gives me confidence. He was working for a HoF offensive minded coach, supporting an offense with multiple HoF players. I was so ready to give him credit if he came here and things started to turn around, but working under RR with this roster, he's just gotten exposed.

It's worry on top of dissatisfaction. The injury was serious and they took what they needed from his other leg. This is a guy that was a total freak of nature, used to having an elite first step and physical gifts that made him a no-brainer #2 pick -- a superstar among superstars. A guy like that doesn't need the technique or discipline that other guys do. So if you remove that elite first step -- which is entirely possible with this type of injury -- the concern is that you're now paying top dollar for a guy that no longer has the natural physical advantage and may not have the skills to compensate. And that's on top of the typical concern about reinjury and shortened shelf life.

So far this year those issues haven't surfaced, which is great. He's looked good. But he's also had moments that put the "chase" in Chase Young -- getting pressure but not having the closing speed, not always getting off clean, etc. Maybe he's still getting his rhythm back and we're white-knuckling it too much, but that worry is there because we have to make a decision on what could be a monster contract.

His physical ability is all-pro. What’s between his ears is what’s suspect. He does his own thing. Maybe he matures out of it. A gamble this team needs to get right.

If he takes a team friendly deal to resign then there is hope for something special out of him. I fully expect him to demand top dollar though. He’s got 5 sacks after 7 games. He’s looking at a career year. He’ll want to get paid.

Resign Sweat and trade Young. Nothing less than a 2nd.

watching the Michigan "scandal" closely and it seems harder and harder to justify Harbaugh coming back in 2024. He may just be fed up with the NCAA's crap (never trust the NCAA!) and bolt. Listen, I was wary of Harbaugh with repeated losses to OSU but he fixed that issue. He also was nearly fired during the COVID year (Michigan had it's worst season in a very long time and basically didn't play "The Game" against OSU) but to his credit has found staff and recruits that were able to contend for titles.

There's no way he quits today, or tomorrow. Who is he, Mel Tucker? If he leaves, he goes at the end of the season. And he should. The NCAA is done with him. Probably show cause him but he won't care.

I don't know if Harris should take a look because we all pretty much agree Rivera isn't coming back if they underachieve this year. Personally I would not want Harbaugh here in DC. I want fresh new minds.

They should trade one of the DTs, one of the DEs and Terry McLaurin as long as the comp is correct.

And this is coming from someone with a season long bet on the over under. I’d pay the piper for some futures for the next regime to mold/deal.

So in layman’s terms they’ve hired a fancy stat guru, and said guru will assist the football minds in the selection of players?
Yup. Harris is an analytics guy. This is the first step in Harris putting his mark on the football side of the organization.

If there's a line on how many times the brotherly shove gets used vs WAS this week, take the over because they're going to ram it down JDR's throat...

"We're doing the shove again"
"But it's 2nd and 7..."
"Yeah, I know, but it's going to be really funny"

I'd watch that.

robert back to bashing the organization again apparently

Man I wish RGIII would just disappear and leave us alone. I've never seen a more undeserving attention hound than him. He takes credit for doing almost nothing, and throws blame around for his failures with ease. He just thinks he's much bigger than he really is. Just shut up already, RGMe.

You and me both dude…If I was his boss as ESPN I’d tell him it’s a bit embarrassing at some point. Your references to all the bad things that happened to poor little RG3 have almost no bearing today.
