Anthony Richardson likely done for the season…..shocker.
Yea, tough break for that kid. AC joint on your throwing shoulder is no joke. He had some flashes of promise from what little I’ve seen. But as a running QB he sure seems kinda fragile.

This is why I prefer a guy like Howell who is a natural pocket passer. Of course, he might get killed behind this o-line. Hopefully Richardson can learn from watching the rest of the year.

It’s pointless to argue with people who don’t understand what’s going on.
Would you not agree that it's at least partially Sam's fault? Holding the ball too long? I've seen many NFL talking heads analyze him so far this season and they all say he's got that issue, that he wasn't stepping up when he should to help out his line.

I’ve been saying for a while now Howell is at fault for a lot of the sacks. Part of his issue is inexperience and part is he holds the ball too long. Holding the ball to long was a knock on him coming out of college.

The O-line has a big share of the blame as well. It’s an average to below average line at best. But if you can count to 4 seconds after the snap and the QB hasn’t gotten rid of the ball that’s on the QB if a sack happens not the line.

Another person with blame is EB. He’s calling the plays and running the ball goes a long way in helping an average O-line. Gets the line dictating contact instead of reacting to the defense while pass blocking. Also slows the pass rush down a little if the D-line has to respect the run. 55 pass plays in a row is ridiculous with a 1st year starting QB and a suspect O-line.

I challenge the “O-line” every round of the draft people to count how many seconds Howell has the ball in his hands on a pass play before he gets rid of of the ball or takes a sack. Might open your eyes.

When JT doesn't like him that's usually why too, stays on reads too long and doesn't get to checkdowns/out of danger fast enough.

Sam had a historically high sack to pressure rate in college.

He does so many things well but seeing disguised pressure pre snap, feel for pressure in pocket, time clock etc is not calibrated right.

I think sometimes when the pocket is collapsing ... he'd rather squeeze the ball and take the sack vs trying to throw ball away and get it knocked out of his hand.

He's on pace to take the most sacks in a single season in NFL history. I don't see what's wrong with saying that he has taken a bunch of sacks that he shouldn't have AND the offensive line sucks.
I think we all agree it's a combination of both. That said when you are historically bad it's hard to pin that much blame on not historically bad o line.

God I hate the NFL contract rules. The amount of times teams make big signings and then just go "oh hey, by the way, we restructured this deal and this one" and now it's no big just kills me.

I bet he’s eventually extended for 2-3 years….
Minnesota may not want to extend him if they think they’re going into a rebuild. There are a few interesting potential destinations for KC if he ends up leaving.

First team that comes to mind is New England. Mac Jones looks like his time in NE is coming to an end and BB isn’t going to want to end his career depending on a rookie. Plus, if they want to compete with Allen, Rodgers, and Tua next year they need an upgrade.

San Francisco is also another potential destination. He’s undeniably better than Brock Purdy and makes them probably the best team in the NFL. And we know Kirk and Mike love each other.

Other places I could see would be Tennessee, Denver, LA, Green Bay, Dallas, and a few others.

A lot could happen, but they were saying on ESPN yesterday that neither side is ready to move on and Cousins and family like their current city.

Cousins should want nothing to do with NE and their crap roster…doubt SF dumps Purdy.

Can’t say I see Denver, LAR, or Dallas.

I do see Atlanta, Tampa, and possibly….Seattle, in the NFC. Green Bay *could* happen, but they are probably going to rebuild.

In the AFC, New England, Tennessee, and Pittsburgh make the most sense, IMO.

The 9ers are not going to gut their team to fit Mr. ‘f*** winning, I have to make the very last dollar’ on their cap.

Purdy is a pretty good QB at this point but his very low cap number allows the rest of the team to a lot better also. Adding Cousins means subtracting a reasonable amount of talent from the rest of the team.

If they think he's the difference between winning and losing the Super Bowl then who knows? Or maybe Kirk will decide that he's made already $236M in career earnings (not counting any sponsorship deals he's done) and any money after that has zero impact on his quality of life or the lives of his children but he's never sniffed a Super Bowl so he'll take potentially a little less to go play for a coach he likes on a team that can win it all. I don't disagree that Purdy's cap hit is a big advantage but if they think Kirk is better than Purdy - one or two other players then I could see it.

Sean Payton's ego is not going to wait around and watch his legacy burn with Russell "Broncos Country, Let's Ride" Wilson. My guess is Wilson is gone before the next league year opens so they don't have to guarantee his salary. Dak's contract is voidable after next season and if they have another successful regular season but underwhelm in the playoffs maybe they decide to go another direction. And yeah, I thought Stafford's contract was up sooner but forgot he signed an extension last year, so LA probably doesn't fit unless Stafford and/or the Rams want to move on.

The odds of Cousins not squeezing the last dollar out of his next victim of an organization AND the 9ers saying ‘we need to WIN now and the guy to put us over the top is Kirk f***ing Cousins’ is ZERO.

Not a response to just this post, simply not going to scour the whole thread for other comments...

I don't know why people are blaming this on being a "running quarterback". The injury happened on a set run play but it wasn't an unusual tackle, like a head-on collision at full speed that you might blame on turning your QB into an RB.

This tackle could've happened on a scramble or in the pocket.

The problem is Richardson fell awkwardly, for some reason extending his elbow toward the ground instead of tucking. Maybe he was protecting his head since he had a concussion recently. That's also not unusual for anyone in the NFL.

So his upper arm would've pistoned into his AC joint and probably tore his rotator cuff.

He was looking really good as a QB before this. Shame his season ended this way. Shoulder injuries can take a long time to heal and he may not have the same arm strength or mobility later. Depends on how good the doctors and rehab are.

If his season ended because of a called run when he was still protecting a recent concussion, then some coaches have some splainin to do.

Kendall Fuller has probably been one of our most consistent players over the years, he was the highest rated slot corner in the NFL the year before he was traded to KC and he’s never really lost a step it seems like. Fuller appreciation post

He has been hurt almost every single game…..because he plays a high risk style and the Colts are using him in that same style. Pretty much his entire rookie year is now flushed…..and for a guy already short on reps in his overall career…..headed in the completely wrong direction.

How many QBs in the league play all 17 games every year?

Only 8 regular QBs started all 17 games in 2022-23.

At least 3-4 of those guys will scramble pretty readily. Smith, Mahomes and Lawrence were top 10 in QB rush yds last year.

QBs get hurt. A lot.

That said I don't think AR will be used the same way when/if he comes back. These guys tend to run more readily until injury, then they get schemed for more pocket passing because of the injury history. Lamar is doing the same thing rn
