Don't need any improvement.

I'll take Bunting's 39gl/51pt pace and Ritchie's 22gl/38pt pace from last year no problem.
I love that converstation on that motherF sire. On that and all the way through baby. They both be our heroes next season and doing hard and well. Hard is the word I'm embasizing, hard.

Probably yes.

He looks legit skilled and a very good skater. Probably bad defensively but if they're thinking sheltered 3rd pair with PP duties then he could make sense.

He looks like a smoother RHD version of Dermott in the small, small sample size I've seen. Not sure if this is just nice practice skills on display or implies he has a lot more untapped ability but he's an interesting player to watch.

I feel like Robertson should be on Kerfoots left wing. Hes looking impressive, Mikheyev with Kerfoot seems like a waste to me. Mikheyev is a good grinder but he should be with Kampf.

Does Mennell have a reasonable case to make the Leafs?
I absolutely loved what I saw from Mennell last game and I think Keefe did too since he played about a minute and change more than Dermott, his direct competition for the 3rd pair RD / #7D option. He's still going to need to usurp Liljegren, who not only impressed, plus also has the inside track given how long he's been in the organization (not to mention his draft position).

To start:

Ritchie-Matthews-Marner
Bunting-Tavares-Nylander
Kerfoot-Kampf-Kase
Mikheyev-Spezza-Simmonds
Brooks

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Sandin-Dermott
Menell

Bunting, Ho-Sang, Kase, Kampf seem to offer a lot of good mid line up mix and match abilities. It's really early days even in pre-season but it makes such a difference to have these prime age players who can bring a little bit of everything vs when we had older or unhealthy players like Foligno, Thornton, Simmonds and friends really gunking up the transition game.

Send Simmonds down to the Ahl.

Ideally we should trade Kerfoot, Mikheyev, Engvall, and Dermott For picks and or a really solid two way 3c to push Kampf to 4c but thats not happening at this point in the season.

It seems like we have way too many NHL forwards.

It’s not a bad thing it’s just that we’re definitely going to be losing a decent piece so hopefully we pick the right ones

Ideally they can move a few that will have to go through waivers and re-coup some picks.

Sandin and Liljegren should both be on the roster. Time for them to learn the NHL game and get the kinks out now.

Problem is that a playoff spot isn't a given this year and the Leafs will have to be competing from game 1. If either of them struggle early on and it's hurting the team, that's a tough call.

More and more fans are leaving Simmonds off the roster.

It's not just me...

Personally, i don't want to see simmonds in the.line up. Except for physically, he don't bring anything good to the leafs. He's awfull without the puck, he's awfull with the puck. The only thing he can do in a hockey game is hitting and being out of play

I prefer a guy like ho-sang, engvall brooks or anderson who cam bring something more useful to the team.

Mikheyev-Kampf-Kase
Kerfoot-Semyonov/Brooks-Spezza

Is what I'd like to see for our forward lines to start, use the third line as a defensive line and let the fourth line out skill other fourth lines

But I can see Kase moving up the lineup as the season goes on, and I'm still not at all a Kerfoot fan, don't really see anywhere he fits

"They" finna make a real trade soona or later sire. Some sucka forward will be moving out and we'll be getting a stuck at a standstill fool d-man back. Ain't even no thang sire. He finna block some shots and twerk that thang. Hard.

Our squad is real tight and aaaaight, now.

After game 3 of the Pre-Season, my updated lineup for opening night looks like:

Roster Size: 22
Cap Hit: $81,083,116
Cap Space: $416,884

Ritchie - Matthews - Marner
Bunting - Tavares - Nylander
Kerfoot - Kampf - Kase
Micheyev - Spezza - Ho-Sang
Simmonds

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Liljegren
Sandin - Holl
Mennel

Mrazek/Campbell

**Sign Josh Ho-Sang to a 2year x 800K 2-way deal**
***Waive Engvall, Trade Dermott for pick(s)***

Not that I think Simmonds deserves to be on this opening roster by merit, but its just not a typical move a hockey team makes.

Bunting Matthews Nylander
Ritchie Tavares Marner
Kerfoot Kampf Mikheyev
Kase Spezza Simmonds

Not sure Ritchie can keep up with the heavy minutes Matthews line will get.
That 3rd line can shutdown any line in the league and have the speed to generate or match up
The 4th line is an interesting combo of energy(Looking at you Simmonds) and shooting when they get a chance.

Lots of valid points made here.

-Yes leaving Simmonds off of an opening night roster is unlikely. As much as his play does not warrant it, he is a vet and well respected player in that room. He will likely get the opening night game, and continue to get games until we need a shakeup. My guess is that he will be the first one out of the lineup.

-I actually think Ritchie would have to do more on the JT line than he would the Matthews line. Marner and Matthews are great possession players, and Nick would really just have to find the open areas on the ice. He wouldn't be seeing PP1 likely and he definitely wont see PK1, so his minutes will be managed just in that capacity IMO. In contrast, playing with JT requires a stronger cycle presence and Willy and JT really seemed to thrive when they added a strong F1 player like Galchenyuk last year. To me Bunting is a better version of Gally. I really see that as an ideal fit.

-Kampf and Kase have played together in both of their pre-season games. They've played together in the past in the Czech league, and have shown a really strong chemistry through 2 games. I just can't see them being on different lines

-Lastly, I do agree, there is an element of Ritchie's game that is a huge question mark for me. I do see it working on the top line, but I also see games where he is visibly holding Mitch and Auston back. If Ritchie were to falter on the top line, I wouldn't keep him in the top 6 at all. Similar to Jumbo last year. The way I see it is, if you cant consistently play with Matthews and Marner as your liney's, who the f*** can you play with in a top 6 role?? I'd put him straight down the lineup on the 4th line, try and wake him up a bit. It would not be a permanent move, but more so a wakeup call. I'd then move Kerfoot up the lineup and run something like this:

Kerfoot - Matthews - Marner
Bunting - JT - Willy
Micheyev - Kampf - Kase
Ritchie - Spezza - Ho-Sang

Again this is not my opening night roster, just the roster I'd ice in the event of needing a top line shake up during the season

Bunting - Kamf - Kase - is a wicked 3rd line.

Ritchie - Matthews - Marner - has potential, Ritchie can do his thing...he was drafted to be a contributer and this may be his last chance.

Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander - not sure about kerfoot here...as a place holder for a potential future trade or promotion of Bunting.

Simmonds - Spezza - Ho Sang - is a solid 4th line.

Mikhayev and Engvall waived

Just throwing away more assets for nothing?
