There's more to the game than stat watching. There's been a noticeable drop in his play this season.

It starts at the grassroots level. I'm taught "game management" instead of calling by the book regardless of situation. I'm interested in continuing to be assigned games so I follow what I'm instructed. This does, for example, mean swallowing my whistle late in a close game. I can think of a tripping call I deliberately let go this morning because it was "kind of soft" and it was 3-2 with 3 1/2 minutes left in the third period. I'm literally taught to not call it because "the situation doesn't warrant it".
