I'm not worried, they're too talented to not eventually put it together, but last year's team was dominant in terms of possession and controlling play in those first 6 games, whereas this year's team has been outplayed in the majority of games and has been over reliant on Jack playing like the best player in the world.
Yess they were better too start the year last year, but there are valid reasons for their slower start this year. Do they have to clean it up? Absolutely. Point is it's not the end of the world.

We’re 2nd in CF% and 4th in xGF%. Not bad for what is definitely a work in progress. My biggest complaint is the poopy PK and lackluster goaltending.

We were better last year as we were just shitkicking teams to start the year even in the losses but we’ve been controlling play this year better than people think. 2nd in CF%. 4th in xGF%. 8th in HDCF%. 1st in SCF% by a wide margin. We’re basically replacing Smith and his 39% xGF away from being back at the top in xGF% (also Mercer stopping being a bum with his 44%)

I mean, this should be a wake up call in the highest degree. They have to come out flying out versus Buffalo. Also really weird how they've started at home this year. That 6 game road trip or whatever it is after Minnesota should help them a ton imo. There's where they got their groove last year.
Going on a long road trip is not always the worst thing in the world. Less pressure to impress will help to get back to basics.

They're dangerous offensively but they're not controlling play and limiting scoring chances like last year's team. Last year's Devil's were dominant in all zones, this year's team so far has been a mess outside of the O-Zone.

Yeah they'll be fine, last year's team was really weird in terms of everything coming together at the perfect time. People have to realize that team was completely different and they're still integrating their top picks on defense who will have growing pains especially when Nemec comes up and has a brain.

Bullshit excuse. Don’t wanna hear it.
It’s not BS and you already heard it.

It’s a comment on how poor refereeing gets excused as game management but here we have referees not game managing which is just more lack of consistency.

To me the passing is still too out of sync and it's leading to pucks into skates, broken plays, and really bad turnovers.

Which is an issue when most of the team is booking up ice and suddenly the puck is going the other way.

Vanecek is an NHL level goalie. Just not a a particularly good one. An okay one.

Schmid may or may not be one.

There’s lots of bad goalies in the league right now. Look at the Capitals behind Kuemper. There’s more AHL goalies with full time roles than ever.

I don’t think finding a particularly good goalie is as easy as you think right now.
Who even moved this off-season that was gettable and a clear upgrade? Winnipeg said with their actions and words Helle wasn’t on the market and proved it

Outside of the Hughes Brothers there's not anyone I feel confident carrying the puck at the moment. Which shouldn't be the case on a team that has as much high end talent as the Devils' currently have.

Jack having 17 pts in 6 games and only have 3 wins is pretty f***ing wasteful

If he dips and other guys start picking up their games, so be it. The issue is gonna be if he dips it and no one decides to do anything obviously. Really think the Mercer line shuffling really f***ed with him. Should've just stayed with the preseason lines.

That seems like a big cop out excuse for Mercer. It’s not the line shuffling. He’s just sucked.

Wake up call for this team
Cant take a proud veteran team lightly.
Hughes getting stapled at the end a reminder you can dance around all night but never let your guard down because they will hit you (actually both Hughes come to think of it)
And this goalie tandem does not make us cup contenders.
You forgot to logout.

Nico is starting to pick it up, Timo too, 4th line is buzzing. Bratt keeps on getting points. Some guys are finding their game. Not too worried about that.
