True that. Just the Islanders game showed that. The team played their game. Last night in MTL too.
They made defensive mistakes in both those games but slowed it down when they had to and made plays. Tonight they looked like they were going 1000 mph. They looked like they wanted to show off and be globetrotters.

Who even moved this off-season that was gettable and a clear upgrade? Winnipeg said with their actions and words Helle wasn’t on the market and proved it
The goalies that I know were either on UFA or traded weren’t even worth thinking about.

James Reimer? He’s 35 years old and has made a career out of being an 1b because he wasn’t good enough to be an 1a and Now he’s 35.

Alex Lyon? He’s another AHL goalie that’s like 30-something years old.

Jonas Johansson? More career AHL crap.

Cam Talbot? 36 and bad.

David Rittich? Just more bad.

Jonathan Quick? Really?

I know one! How about……Korpisalo? On a FIVE year deal? Signing Korpisalo to that would simply be like dropping a bomb on the city of Newark.

yeah I counted my chickens a little too early. sorry man.. hope the kids had fun at least
They did. Someone from the arena staff noticed my youngest being a great cheerleader with her pom Pom so they gave her a free shirt and free snack token.

At least the game was entertaining. But as a hardcore fan it’s always a gamble shelling out dollars for what might turn out to be a disappointing evening.

The goaltending level in the NHL is absolutely f***ed. 5-6 elite guys and the rest are all average to meh.

What he did was fine. Neither the 2nd or 3rd line was good. Then again to start the year neither were good. Now the 2nd line has been better (Palat aside) and the 3rd still sucks.

Meh, pulling a guy off of a line who looked fine/good all preseason to reunite a very good line from last year missing a big piece (Tatar) was foolish imo. Tatar has gotten some run with MacK in Denver and has looked good. Both Nico and Mercer are missing him a ton.

Not sure the oilers are the right comparison. I think we have more higher end talent surrounding Jack than Edmonton does surrounding McDavid.

If anything, could see risk of becoming the pre-cup Capitals.

Honestly this is kind of what you would’ve expected the team to look like last year. Improved but still looking inexperienced and leaky with the details of the game.

Same thing with Mercer. Guess he decided to have his sophomore slump until junior year.

Yeah there was a weird frantic nature to their game tonight. Even when they clicked in the 2nd they seemed to be running way too fast.

Part of me thinks they really need to simplfy their play for a few games, settle down a bit instead of trying to globetrot so much.

Goaltending right now is so scarce that even the good but not great guys (Oettinger, Demko, Ullmark) are almost worshipped and overrated.

Right now there’s multiple career AHL goalies that are late 20s/early 30s occupying full time roster spots on teams around the league. Like these guys were literally brought in by teams with the intention of starting the season as part of their NHL tandems. And these aren’t even potential prospects, they’re veterans that are either long since busted prospects or guys that were never expected to make it anyway.

The Capitals got one, and I’m not even talking about the guy from tonight. I’m talking about 30 year old Lindgren, who they gave a three year deal to last year. He never spent an entire year on an NHL roster until last year.

Joey Daccord in Seattle. Jonas Johansson in Tampa. Wedgewood in Dallas probably counts as one. Pheonix Copley in LA. Even Pittsburgh is throwing Alex Nedeljkovic out there as their backup, who I thought for sure was done with a full time NHL role after his 2 months of fame with Carolina 3 years ago.

I’m probably forgetting one or two others.
