We lost to these same Capitals 6-3 last year and fell to 3-3 on the year. New coach and all, yeah, but proof that teams are not exempt from this type of shit year after year. That’s hockey.

It’s as simple as having to come out with more purpose in each period. But I’m not going to put too much stock into a game in late October where the hockey is as loose and poorly executed as this.

It is really worth more than a thought that we’re constantly down 10-3 in shots (or thereabouts) during 1st periods against the Coyotes, Canadiens and Capitals of the league.

Last seasons late game heroics on so many occasions masked this teams inability to start from the opening faceoff. Problem is, opponents are better prepared for us now and we still don't show up for at least the first 1/3 of the game.

I mean they came back in this game, it's just that they legit look like they take teams for granted due to sheer skill at times. That's where coaching comes in to tell their team to rein it in and keep focused. I like Lindy but the way he coaches is like a substitute teacher where he lets everyone be buddy buddy with him and it hurts his teams in game.

Yeah, skate them to death when the goalies can't stop a beach ball. The defense is noticeably flawed. Losing Graves and Severson is a big issue. Throw in well below average goaltending and here we are.

Luke is our second best defensemen. Siegenthaler can't put more than two games together to save his life, Marino forgot how to play hockey. Bahl hasn't passed his own blue line all season.

Smith cannot play another game, he is actively harming the team every night. Call up Nemec, call up f***ing Tommy Albelin, I don't care. He cannot play another game.

What worried me right off the bat in the 3rd was that even a guy like Toffoli made a silly soft cross ice pass in the D zone that was easily picked off. It’s like they turned off their brains to start the period again.

I am not that guy who keep saying the season is early, but this team needs to become a unit that knows each other well. It will come. They are an impressive bunch.

As for goaltending I think Vanecek is still better than average. The ugly goal he let in was a whiff from the scorer. Whiffs cab be the toughest shots to stop.
