It’s an excuse and it’s true, the refs were kind of one sided but it wasn’t exactly like the Pittsburgh game last year and it’s not like we really deserved many calls

We do most likely salvage a point if not for that missed trip.

Once I get past the frustration, my immediate take is that was the coming out party for Luke Hughes. He was money. Looked like the guy from last year, and he’ll only get better.

Two things, the Caps were shooting at 4%, they were bound to regress a little bit. That being said, we didn't make their lives hard at all for any of those goals they scored tonight. The start was bad (captain obvious), Nico taking that penalty late and allowing the Caps fresh ice was bad, Mercer/Palat/Siegs have been utter dogshit to start the year. Not gonna blame Vanecek since he was probably expecting the night off but the McMichael goal can't go in.

Need more out of the back end production wise

We scored 4 goals, you want balance but that will figure itself out.

It's the very sloppy D-zone play plus the goaltending was poor tonight. At least 2, if not 3, of the 6 goals against should have been saves

I feel reasonably okay that by the end of the year, VV will largely be average. I'm concerned about Schmid. Think he needs Utica time

Last seasons late game heroics on so many occasions masked this teams inability to start from the opening faceoff. Problem is, opponents are better prepared for us now and we still don't show up for at least the first 1/3 of the game.

I’m not sure if he needs Utica time, but he may not be as good as we hoped.

At least he’s only getting paid under a million and not $2.5 or whatever the other guy is getting.

Extremely frustrating game. Nice that they fought back and made it something, this team has the skill. Not everything has clicked yet. The goaltending does concern me a little. Sucks that you pot 4 and you end up losing.

He is our weakest forward up front. By the trade deadline, I highly doubt he will be a regular if we are healthy.

Based on the scuttle, really didn't seem like Fitz wanted him up this year anyway and he was probably right. Not sure what the answer is there, but we'll see.
