I personally think it all boils down to one very simple issue. Can the Rangers impede/contain the Devils speed.

Personally I think the answer to this question determines the series and everything else is ancillary.

It's fans like you that will make it a beautiful day if the NYR ever win. Listen, Machinehead is right, Miller's game recently has been off. Too many stupid defensive zone turnovers. Trouba is a good player and can be a physical difference-maker in a series like this, despite your fanbase's opinion of him. Lindgren is a good d-man. The bottom pair for us will not play more than 13 or so minutes. One defense went three rounds last year. The disrespect the Rangers d gets is comical. Both teams having good centers doesn't have to turn into a pissy match if the Devils have significantly better ones. One team has a top-6 with a total of 460 playoff games combined, four Cups, and a bunch of others that have been witnesses to knock down, drag out series'. Adversity matters. The Devils' top-6? 81 playoff games and nothing else to show for it, so let's chill. I will sit here right now and say that I have a ton of respect for the Devils' turnaround. They are a very good team and will be for a while, and they can very much smack us if we don't play the right way, but this Rangers team getting **** on by the Devs fanbase is a good thing.
I’m not saying that the Rangers defence is not good. Fox is better than any of the Devils D . But…. Rangers 3rd pair is goimg to get taken advantage of. With home ice advantage , I can see that being a difference maker in the series.

Big Rangers fan. Not overly optimistic. Experience is on their side, but they struggled with the Devils all season. They have a hard time with their speed.

If I'm being unbiased, based on what I've seen, I'd pick the Devils in 6.

Shesterkin will need to be at the absolute top of his game, which he has been recently, for the Rangers to contend.

Honestly would have rather seen them against the Hurricanes than the Devils.

I took the Devils in 6, it has been since the 17-18 season since they have been to the playoffs and they will be hungry!

It will be very interesting to see if Luke gets any games. He can very well be an X factor BUT it will be very hard to throw a kid into what will be a very intense , fast paced , series. I just can’t see Ruff putting a 19 year old kid into a NHL playoff game with having 2 regular season games for experience …
No matter how good he may turn out to be , that’s a lot of trust to put into a rookie and might be unfair to Luke to expect him to step in and play mistake free hockey…

I think the Devils are the favorites in this series. Not concerned about the home ice factor. Rangers have found it difficult to contain the Devils speed/rush game. If they can find a way to slow them down, then I do like the Rangers chances.

We need Shesty to be his best or close to it, need to get contributions from our Vets, especially Kane who has been laboring out there since he put on a show for the Rangers to trade for him.

I love Tarasenko and think he will be our X-factor. We also need contributions from our so called kids line. I also am very content with the 4th line, since adding Vesey and Motte it has been a very effective 4th line, and think they can easily pass for a 3rd line on a lot of teams.

Regardless, It’s going to be a fun and exciting series, and I hope both fans have fun and enjoy this long awaited match up.

Devil fan here. It’s going to be tough. The Rangers have the edge in net and they may have the advantage on defense. I hate to say it but I’ll take a guess and say Rangers in 6 or 7. Hope I’m wrong.

Of the Devils get up in the series like 2-0 or 3-1 , I can see Trouba try to flying elbow smash Hughes / Bratt / Nico / Mercer . He has tried it multiple times on players so far. Crosby Nico ( missed him ) Palat when he was in Tampa .
Crosby literally fell awkwardly and he & Trouba collided. No malintent. Elbow never made contact with Crosby's head.

Missed Nico, yes. Coming at him from the side, not head on, just harder to line up the target and Trouba missed. Comical for sure.

Palat ducks a normal incoming Trouba hit. Elbow (follow-thru, tucked regardless) was only at head level because again, Palat ducks to avoid contact.

He doesn't run key players, he runs anybody. Depends on the game, momentum etc. He absolutely throws hits to get his team in the game. There's nothing wrong with that.

He catches you with your head down, you're getting Trouba'd. Doesn't matter if you're Jack Hughes or f***ing Juhjar Khaira bro.

This is the only series I didn't vote on, I have no idea who is going to win.
If NJ can play with speed and stay out of the box, they should win. That is a whole lot easier to say than to do though.

Rangers speed is good enough to match it, I don't think Rangers are in disadvantage there.
I’m not saying the Devils are clearly the better “team” bu there is no doubt that the Devils are the faster team and it has given the Ranger issues.
Just like Sheshterkin is no doubt he better goalie and has he ability to give he Devils issues lol.

Ill put it this way… I am not and will not put any substantial money down on who is winning the series.
Both teams are very good.

Rangers in 5.
Rangers have better wings, defense, goaltending and experience.
Devil's have youth, speed and a high end top line.
I fully expect Trouba to lay one of the Devils forwards out early. Keep your heads up boys!
which line is the high end top line?

just wondering what the outside look on the devils is.

I think it's pretty clear it was a blessing in disguise for Pittsburgh to have been without Jarry until Game 7 and Domingue was the best goalie on the roster this whole time.

Jarry played fine in Game 7, not sure what this comment is. He always plays the Rags for the most part regardless of what happens to him against the Islanders.

Everyone is bringing up the Rangers' defense because it is the biggest question mark in the series. There is a reason they had such a huge discrepancy between home/away last playoffs. Fox/Lindgren are as solid as ever but the Miller/Trouba pairing constantly get exposed.

Its not even the Devils' speed that will give them trouble. Both of those guys are gifted physically and can keep up. Its the Devils' forecheck on that pairing which will create endless turnovers because both of those guys are mistake prone.

The big story is how the Rangers' coaching can keep the Fox/Lindgren pair out there against the best Devils forwards and their ability to shelter the Miller/Trouba pair.
