It was a response to an advanced stats post on Nemec.

Yeah, as it’s been discussed here today, this card for a small sample size of games and Nemec’s supporting cast is fine. He’s had a good tournament. Doubt people who comment like that on Twitter take the time to think about the context and that’s ok. All I know is we have a good one and I’m glad. Hughes and him on our blue line shortly will be insane.

The guys upset Shero or Fitz never traded for Tage before he broke out, he’s an idiot. Other teams have good players too. Yes, I looked at the nitwit’s feed and my life is now the worse for it. Devils Twitter is terrible. (Other parts of Twitter are quite good actually, so isn’t A Twitter thing.)

The same idiots are complaining about the 5th we gave up to trade Will Butcher.

His games vs USA and Latvia were fantastic. At the end, he looked little bit tired, his IT in every game was insane.

Yea I know exactly what existed human you are talking about lol. He is the worst epitome of Devils Twitter.

Must be Bratt Pack, that guy is the worst of Devils Twitter.
Although there are quite a few that give him a run for him money.

TBH, I thought Nemec had a better tournament than Hughes. He did take a couple penalties I didn't like but I feel like he was impactful in a good way almost every time he was on the ice.

Luke had a rough game tonight and against Slovakia IMO but I can't wait to see them both with the Devils.

Luke was also snakebit quite a bit I thought. Dude set up so many chances and had some very good looks. He could have 4-5 more points. Just tonight, he hit a flukey post in the 1st and he had an assist on the first disallowed goal.

Not surprising really. Was weirdly horrible on retrievals up until the last game. Guys would just step in front of him or push him off the puck. Wasn’t aggressive defending off the rush and his breakouts at times weren’t great.

Also didn’t see much of the puck in the ozone but when he did he was pretty much exclusively looking for a shot and there wasn’t much else available.

The lack of passing offense as well as the struggles on breakouts can be attributed somewhat to how Slovakia played. They didn’t have much support back on controlled breakouts instead just looking for long stretch passes and in zone they basically just funnelled to the net so when Nemec had the puck there wasn’t really any forwards trying to get open or roll up high like you see with a lot of other teams.

The shitty retrieval rate is on Nemec and was frustrating to watch at times and there were times he was doing the Dougie and just throwing it up the boards on breakouts rather than making plays.

That first paragraph is a bunch of stuff that concerned me last year as well

I think Luke’s game against Slovakia got WAY more shit than deserved. He was awful tonight and bad against the Latvian’s. The Slovakia game he had like a bad moment but absolutely took over the game in the 3rd

The plot thickens

He definitely does believe Jiricek>Nemec (which I don’t see how that’s a controversial stance at all). He was a big Nemec guy throughout last year. Then we became friends and I ended up persuading him over to the Jiricek side.

It's not a controversial take at all. People thinking Nemec is better and/or preferring his skillset isn't either.

It didn’t concern me much. Still doesn’t. He’s usually very good on retrievals but as someone else described he seemed to lack some urgency in that and other aspects of his game this tournament. Looked to me like he was almost coasting which wouldn’t be unreasonable and was possibly necessary given the minutes he was playing. Not many players can play those type of minutes with high intensity.

Again it would be really stupid to be comparing and suggesting Jiricek is better based off of 5 games (now 6) of him playing significantly easier minutes on a significantly better team that has been running a great system and absolutely running through teams.

Nemec had a solid tournament all things considered. The fact that he put up the offense he did is impressive considering the fact that he wasn’t joining the rush nearly as much as we’ve seen before (probably couldn’t with the minutes) and Slovakia’s in-zone offense was essentially throw it to the net and/or down low. The defensmen didn’t see much of the puck in the ozone and when they did didn’t have great options available. Occasional d2d available but it was usually either throw it down low or work a shot for yourself which Nemec did very well.

Nemec is looking solid but it’s okay to admit Jiricek looks more promising so far. I preferred Wright at the draft and he has been very underwhelming in this tournament and in limited NHL minutes. It’s still way too early to tell with any of these kids

Was really hoping to hear that Nemec or Hughes put their teams on their backs and dominated multiple games, but i always try to remember the false positives from past WJCs. Cody Hodgson looked like the next coming of Sakic.

I agree that Jiricek has performed ridiculously well, but Nemec was also superior in the WJC. However, he was part of a less structured team than Jiricek, while playing with only one other defenceman who has NHL potential - Strbak. So he took heavy minutes, which often had a negative effect on him (especially in terms of fatigue and unnecessary mistakes, which he would have avoided if he wasn´t tired). Despite this, he clearly stood out among his peers and was dominant. In other words, a joy to watch. The debate between him and Jirick is like choosing between Makar and Hedman (not literally, of course). You simply want to have such players in your team, and it doesn't matter which of them it is.

Btw, do you think Devils will let him go to the WCH? We will badly need him there but I doubt it. I guess he is going to stick with the first team in case of injuries.
