I just want a J. Hughes L. Hughes o.t Asap
Oh god is that going to be amazing to watch...
Imagine how the Rock will explode when they connect on a GWG 3on3 ? Jack himself will convulse with excitement. It will be so awesome to see. It’s not a matter of if it will happen l but rather when it will.

It’s what I’ve been thinking about since we drafted Luke. Two Elite skaters, with tons of offensive skill… my Lawd!

People predicting that a second overall pick will never get PP1 time in the NHL, 2 months into his AHL career?

Ok then.

I am really surprised by some people's opinions. From what I have seen this season, his defensive game is not nearly good enough, basically he is not better than Reilly Walsh. They are both really bad and nowhere near NHL level (yet). As far as QB the PP, that is far away as well. Nemec is about two years away from the NHL imho.

There aren’t many players his age that even play in the AHL. Walsh has 3 years of college and part of 3 AHL seasons under his belt, I would hope he’s better. Not that the stat means much, but Nemec is a +6 and Walsh is even on the year.

Why are people saying Nemec won't be used on the pp?

That makes no sense and I think they would give Nemec pp time over Hughes since that is his bread and butter and Hughes would get more 5v5 time.

True, that's why I am saying Nemec is not nearly NHL ready. If people think the Devils can get rid of Severson and Nemec will jump right in to be the 3rd RD next season, they are mistaken. On the PP btw, Utica usually uses Walsh or Russo if they go with one D. They use Nemec if the go with 2D, either with Walsh or Russo.

I don't think it would be too surprising if Nemec starts in the AHL again next year. I guess we will see how he progresses over the next 4 months and over the offseason/into next year's camp. I don't think everyone is penciling him as the full-time 3rd pair RD next year.

It would be pretty tough to break in two rookies next year anyway, at least at the same time. Luke probably gets the first crack at it, then Nemec if he shows a lot over the course of the season. I guess it depends on who we bring in on D too.

If anything, I think Hughes would get the call over Nemec earlier in their careers just because he is older and more developed. But Hughes might actually be a good case for running 2 D on PP2 or something since a lot of his best offensive qualities seem to be conducive to playing lower in the zone instead of at the point. Could see them both get time on PP2 with Hamilton keeping his spot on the first unit until later on in their careers.

I can't speak to how ready or not Nemec is since I haven't really watched him this year, but I am starting to think as graves continues to play pretty well, that they might want to keep him if he's willing to sign a 2-3 year deal at a higher AAV than he would get on a long contract and then play Luke on the right side. I don't love Graves, but I also don't love the idea of replacing a 3rd of one of the best performing defense units in the league.

That would allow Nemec to be a callup next year rather than expected to hold down a roster spot, which I don't hate at all.

2000 cup team had 4 rookies including 2 on D. Obviously Rafalski was a whole lot more NHL ready than Nemec, so it's clearly not an apples to apples comparison.

Out of curiosity, how has Jiricek looked compared to Nemec? I was in the camp of the former but warmed to Nemec. Ultimately, I think both will be great pros.

It was also the first, and possibly only, time that's ever happened.

He’s developing? We’ll see how he is at the end of the season.

We aren’t paying Severson even more money to play on our 3rd pair, but we don’t know who will be there.

Nemec was quoted as saying they wanted him to work on his defensive game which is likely why he isn’t on the PP much. I’m guessing he PKs, that’s something I’m more interested in him doing a lot of in the AHL right now. I don’t doubt his PP skills, he produced a ton on it his draft year.
