The doomers blow every loss out of proportion, to a ridiculous extent.
That being said, you have to a bit blinded to not see that this team is not as good defensively as the stats suggest. They allowed an opposition player to skate into the slot, completely unchallenged, in close proximity to the goalie not once, not twice, but three times…in one period. Contrary to what some people here insist, this is not something that every team does every game. These are catastrophic failures of puck management and defense. They may only happen a few times a game, but that’s a couple of times more than a team who’s gonna go far in the playoffs would be giving up.
Combine that with an anemic special teams, and there’s plenty of reason to be skeptical of how much success they’re really going to have in the post-season, despite shattering expectations in the regular season.
