How about "gouge out my eyes with a dull object"? Of course, that would offend anyone that has ever known someone that has gouged out their eyes with a dull object. And there is one of those people out there. We have to be sensitive of that.

PS.. When do the Blackhawks start getting the Redskins treatment?

Since Blackhawk was a person and does not refer to a race, they get a little room. People have complained but no one who can claim they were harmed by the name.

Yes, that sounds about right. He's been around a while, with a few different clubs. This year he didn't find a spot on an NHL roster and wound up back in the Devils' system on an AHL contract.

Big, smart, heavy hitter. Doesn't have the greatest hands or feet.

(Decent pickup in deep fantasy leagues that track hits, blocks, and +-.)

Fraser kind of reminds me of a Jeff Odger type player. Not skillful, but can hit like a tank, and more importantly can assume the leadership role on a team. Odgers wore the "C" for the Bruins and the Sharks during his NHL career.

I thought it was after a war division? The black hawks used to be two words, the name was joined in the 80's

16. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS

World War I veteran and coffee tycoon Frederic McLaughlin was Chicago's owner when it entered the NHL in 1926. McLaughlin named the team after the 86th Infantry Division in which he served. The "Black Hawk Division"Â was named after Chief Black Hawk of the Sauk American Indian tribe, who fought the Illinois militia in 1832. The nickname was officially changed from Black Hawks to Blackhawks in 1986.

That was taken from: http://mentalfloss.com/article/22915/whats-nickname-origins-all-30-nhl-team-names

It is actually a battalion of WW1 divison. Which was named after the person. The original owner served in that division during WW1.

yup also they will not get the "redskins" treatment as black hawk was never a derogatory comment.

Ok indirectly named after a person.
Another key point is they don't mock the culture: They don't do the tomahawk chop, war cries, mascot dancing like a 50s Indian. It is the logo and nothing more. If the name referred to battalion it would show an old tank or helmet.
There are some groups that want to fight the logo but have been unable to get to court because they can not show how they have been harmed.

I would like to a agree but somewhere, at sometime, someone will decide that the logo is racist and go after them. I hope I am wrong but just don't think I am.

Yea, I'm pretty sure people were on the Cleveland Indians' case at one point too. I could be wrong.

Sorry I was just going off on a tangent about political correctness. I think teams should be able to call themselves whatever they want and if people still want to buy ticket and merchandise, that is their prerogative.

Back on topic, send the Devils back to Hell...errr... NJ.. same thing!

The Indians mascot is named Chief wahoo or chief yahoo. And he's a screaming Indian. They've toned him and that logo down and it seems to have made everyone shut up.

Please tell me that they aren't retiring Rob Blake's number tonight. I have been out of the area for nearly 2 years, so I am out of the loop, but if so, this is is wrong on so many levels....

I'm sure that the newbies won't understand, but he is the embodiment of what was wrong with the Kings for a loooong time

I duuno, man. Playing Chelsea Dagger is a cruelty that surpasses anything you mentioned above.

I thought that for a long time too. I was just getting into Kings hockey in the last season or two he was with the team before leaving to Colorado, and at the time, the way his departure was covered in the media in Canada made it look like a betrayal, like the team had done everything it could to keep him here. The more reading I do about it, the less that looks like the case. He was also under a lot of pressure from the PA to take a raise, and our uh, not fantastic management/owner group wasn't willing to pay him what he was worth on the open market.

Blake played his *** off for this franchise, and the fact that he's back with the team in an off-ice role and not in Colorado, where he won a cup tells me that this is where his heart was/is. If the situation had been 10 years later, there's no doubt in my mind anymore that he would have been a King for life.

It's just harder for some of us to forget. As I mentioned elsewhere, I will not be disrespectful, but I won't applaud.

on topic: absolute must win game tonight. We've been terrible against the east this year, and a team icing Scott Gomez as their top-line center has no business beating the Kings at home. I have no doubt NJD will come out hard, play a high energy effort game but that lineup is pretty devoid of skill. Got to get the two points from this one in regulation and move on.

That's completely reasonable. Can anyone think of a jersey retirement where the player in question was booed? I have to think that it would be unprecedented if it happens. I don't think it will, but people are entitled to do whatever they want if they paid for a ticket. It's a better problem to have than the jersey tosses in Edmonton, that's for sure.

I can't ignore how he turned down a trade that would have brought the team assets only to sign with San Jose as soon as he could...

i've heard reports that he rejected a trade to san jose for Nabokov

I've also heard reports that Blake had never even been approached about waiving his NTC.

I doubt Lombardi and company would have welcomed him back as an assistant GM if he was an *******.

Tonight, a struggling team visits Staples Center to wrestle with questions about their identity, decisions about aging veterans, and if they have enough to make the playoffs this year.

Oh, and the Devils will be here too. :sarcasm:

what happened with Loktionov? Haven't heard anything about him for a while. He head back overseas or something? AHL?
