I think Muzz on LTIR is already factored into those numbers. Something needs to shake loose with Murray.

May be able to leverage some prospects to do that.

Could be Murray + Timmins for Stauber in Chicago. Murray has major value if he stays healthy, and Timmins can slot into their every day lineup with upside. Stauber would be a decent Kallgren replacement and can split duties with Petruzzelli and Hildeby next year. Marlies have relied upon 3 goalies a lot.

Then the Leafs can sign Stone to be the new #7 because we all know it is going to happen

Or they could do Foote + Meloche and let them fight it out for the #7 spot, with the other filling the RD hole on the Marlies.

We keep signing players who can't defend, so I hope we don't. Unless we are trying to set the record for most goals for and goals against this year.

Brodie is a pending UFA with 5 AAV cap hit.

Also, i think he is really overrated in terms of "defending". he is kinda old and not in his prime and not what he used to be. same as gio

Whats the over/under of Brodie being traded?
The problem with trading Brodie is that it opens up a hole on the right side that would be filled by another $4M D man. In other words it’s basically a lateral move. We are better of trading Nylander for a D man and young forward with upside on an entry level deal.

Pesce and Jarvis for Nylander and Murray could work.

He is 33.....

Gio is old.

Brodie had some of the best defensive metrics last year but had a rough playoff. I kind of want him beside Klingberg... we need someone to shelter him, he is REALLY bad defensively.

don't think Canes do that because they are not looking to take on cap.

Canes will have Svechnikov back hopefully next season so I doubt they are looking for scoring forwards. Nylander/Svech is a wash anyway IMO and Jarvis at elc gives them more depth. I doubt Canes do this deal with Aho's extension also pending for next season.

I could be remembering wrong...but you can sign, be over the cap or limit as long as good to go before the season starts or a certain period.
They can go 10% over the cap as long as they are cap compliant to start the season.
Muzzin would count against that 10% unless he is put on off-season LTIR which includes some conditions and issues I don’t know nearly enough about to list here

Brodie has been really bad on LD

Personally I would dump Brodie (pending UFA anyway) for a towering presence like Zadorov but don't think Flames would do it

Murray situation probably needs a resolution.

Signing Samsonov for 1-2 years at 3M and we're still needing to clear cap

The canes need more scoring up front. Swapping Jarvis for Nylander solves that problem.
