Vincent is pretty highly regarded and will probably end up in Montreal. Kirk Muller or Patrick Roy could be good ass kickers.

With where the Jets are, they can't afford to try someone new and innovative and end up with a lemon as they only have ~3 years of contention window open.

Why do you think we only have a three year window?

Scheifele and Hellebuyck contracts expire after 3 years. Ehlers, Pionk, Schmidt will be pending UFAs. The team is designed to win a cup in the current contracts of Scheifele and Helle. Replacing those guys would be almost impossible, re-signing them to new contracts would mean the Jets having to make sacrifices elsewhere on the roster. Maybe they can still contend after 3 years somehow but that is essentially a magic box. The window to win is now while 55 and 37 are on their current deals.

Wheeler’s contract comes off the books to absorb any bump to Schiefele and Hellebuyck. I wouldn’t dismiss our prospects taking big roles (Perfetti, Heionola etc) if we had to drop a core member.

Maybe it’s a window for the current core but I don’t think the window for the Jets slams shut after three years.

James Patrick is actually a good choice but more off season

His success with the ICE is undeniable and his credentials as a player are very impressive, but there is still something just... I don't know. Let's just say he gives off a very different vibe than most HCs. I would think his next logical step up would be as AHL HC or NHL assistant as he was previously. I would be surprised if he jumped right into a NHL HC gig.

I'm not super familiar with him. What type of vibe does he give you? Just curious.

This is going to sound weird because it will read like I'm knocking him personally. But I'm not, I like the guy and he has clearly had great success with the ICE. He is winning big and that counts for a lot.

However, it's just that there are certain expectations with respect to NHL head coaches. They are skilled communicators, and they often come across as the smartest guy in the room even if they aren't. Maurice is the extreme example of this. Super slick on the microphone, and he's clearly used to having full command of the dressing room.

James Patrick isn't like Maurice at all. He kind of stammers and seems a bit like an out of touch uncle. He's not that old but he somehow seems older than he is. Obviously his credentials in the game are unimpeachable but I sometimes wonder how he relates to the young junior guys. I can't imagine how he'd handle a dressing room full of NHL players.

Obviously this is based totally on intuition so take it for what it's worth. But he is just so different than what we typically see in terms of NHL head coaches.

Ah Gotcha. So he isn't the best public speaker I take it. I wouldn't be reading much into how he talks in public to how he communicates with his players. Public speaking isn't easy and people can often mistake nervousness there for maybe a lack of intelligence and vs. Versa with good public speakers.

I think in Mauroces case, sure he sounds like he has all the answers but in practice he rarely follows through on it. To me I want someone who walks the walk and doesn't just talk to talk.

On ice results are the only thing that matters.

Dave Lowry seems to make sense. The one thing I would need to know is if he shares Maurice's view about being overtly loyal to vets. Last thing we need is a "same shite, different pile" type of coach. If he does ,we might as well keep Maurice at that point.
