Might as well go for a scorched earth rebuild at this point. Trade Hellebuyck and everyone older than Morrissey.

You know it's not salvageable when a guy who's been stuck on TV for years is reluctant to coach your team.

Ok a bit of bigger look at Tochett.

Tampa: He took over for Melrose who was awful.

While he had Lecavier and St. Louis still playing great hockey. He had a rookie Stamkos that struggled mightily under Melrose. Stamkos did turn it around under Tochett and followed ir up with a 90 plus point year winning the rocket.

If you look at the rest of the team his defense consisted of such big names as Eminger, Mezaros, Ranger and a whole host of AHL players. So he had a far worse dcore then what we had the two prior years.

No forward depth either either only Prospal and Malone being legit top 9 forwards.

Second year and his top forwards performed well:

Stamkos 95, St. Louis 94, Lecavier 70
Then Downie, Malone, Tanguay all with solid second line production.

The issue was once again poor forward depth with no other forward scoring over 20 points.

He also had a rookie Headmon, and a bunch of crap as his dcore.

The team also got crap goaltending (9th worst)

From an underlying metrics point of view were pretty bad but zero forward depth and a terrible dcore don't help.

I don't really know what to make of him, his skilled forwards excelled so on that point alone he likely fits our forwards. No clue on his systems though.

From .488 under Tocchet in 09-10 to .628 under Boucher in 10-11 with much of the same core in tact. It's also not like the Southeast division was full of powerhouses in 09-10 either.

They finished 4th in the Southeast behind the powerhouse Atlanta Thrashers who were without Kovalchuck for a good chunk of the season with a broken foot and Paul Maurice's Carolina Hurricanes.

Oh he's not at all my choice, just trying to find something positive about him.

Maybe this is about getting Bedard.

He's obviously not even True North's first choice but it is what it is I guess.

I'll feel better about hiring Tocchet if the roster is blown the f*** up at the draft

If this is the Jets positioning to run it back :help:

No idea how he should even be considered imo. He's stunk up the joint in both gigs. Sure not great rosters but I'd just as soon go with an unproven guy like Vincent. Maybe this is TNSE saying "See we don't just hire connected people".... I'd rather they did in this instance.

Tocchet needing to "think about it" is depressing. "Winnipeg is my 7th choice to coach, hmmm do I leave this cool TV gig in hotlanta or freeze my ass off? Tough choice "

I could quote Milton but I'm going to resist 😞

You are offered one of 32 jobs in the NHL and you have to think about it and you might turn it down to talk hockey on TNT instead?

Sorry, but this shouldn’t even be in the public eye. The second Tocchet said “I got to think about it” the Jets should have said thanks but we will go with someone else. You either want to be an NHL coach or you want to talk shit on TV. The fact that you aren’t sure you really want to coach tells me how committed to coaching you aren’t, and I don’t want you anywhere near my team.

or like I speculated… Tocchet is filler until we can hire Trotz and get serious.

Hell, maybe the Jets will hire Tocchet and he will get caught gambling on Jets games just when Trotz is ready to coach again.

At this point, with the roster we have, I’m just hoping for Vincent or something. Clearly all the candidates suck… maybe give it to the guy who should have supplanted Maurice had they fired him when they should have.

Ok more fun Tochett trivia:

Is 18-19 Coyotes actually had better underlying metrics then our supposed contending Jet team.

Actually his Coyotes teams had better underlying metrics every year except 2017-2018.
