The Jets locker issues get dramatically overplayed around here, and anyone remotely believing they are capable of coaching in the NHL wouldn't run away because they think a locker room is too tough for them. And assistant coaches who pass up NHL jobs stay assistant coaches with no guarantee they will ever get another opportunity. Much more likely both are working like hell trying to convince Chevy that he should trust placing his team in their hands, hoping like hell they get another opportunity at the NHL level.

Agreed. All these guys want the 7 figure head coaching salary. Let's not kid ourselves outside of a small handful of head coaches the rest take what they can get.

What about when trotz was still coaching? We were good with Lowry??
no, that's why we are currently looking for a new coach... in the off season where far more are available and you are not rushed to make a decision on the coach

Jets management has had way more time then most other clubs to determine their next coach. Still we're one of the last without, this organization is so indecisive. Always has been and it probably always will be. Chipman
Chipman was hoping Lowry was their guy.. lol
And you wonder why players want out.
Time to start running it as a business and not be so worried about hurting anyones feelings

Talking hockey with friends (I live in Vancouver now) it would always get brought up how Adam's dad was our coach and then everyone would immediately burst out laughing. I couldn't even say anything cause it was peewee hockey league stuff. I get the players frustration, I wouldn't wanna play for the organization either. I had to stop watching last year months before the season ended for the first time in my life which is saying alot

Best post in a while !
How many other coaches in the history of NHL had to fire themselves? How many other teams have had interim coaches for half the season? And what was the thought process on that decision?
They didnt even have the kahunas to officially fire all the assistants.

And now hire someone a few days before draft if they are lucky. I’m betting 2 out of 3 coaches will be in some way from True North history.

WTH did the assistants also stick around for so long? But it is sad they didn’t keep Huddy around to beat Rick Kehoes record.

just last year two teams had interim coaches for longer then the jets, the thought process from having an interim coach? well more coaches become available in the off season then during, can you imagine if we had hired a coach during the season and trotz came available and we had no shot at him because we rushed into it? lucky to hire somebody a few days before the draft? were reportedly down to 2 maybe 3 and a decision could be coming in the next couple of days

Just like the players, there's probably a lot of people who don't want to coach and live in Winnipeg. I remember Chipman lecturing the media and fans on this and we still don't seem to get it. We will have a way harder time building a winning team due to Winnipeg's reputation. So I doubt they are the ones being indecisive about the job, they are probably receiving a lot of rejections. Hence the the True North being too loyal, as that's the only way to attract some people to the organization.

if these people are rejecting us, then why are they interviewing?

murat on wst
-believes montgomery is one of the front runners, not 100% they are all in on him as they were on trotz
-heard tocchet was among the finalists as well
-continue to believe arniel will have a major role on this coaching staff, believes it will be as an associate but it's possible if it all breaks right he ends up with the head coaching gig as well
-beyond those 3 he's not to sure
The wait does get a bit frustrating. Chevy does like to grind things out. Montgomery would be nice. It would also go a long way in walking some people away from the edge. If it is Tocchet Arniel combo HF Boards will need to invest in some crises counseling for its Jets fans.

Yeah, I have no idea how Tochet is even in the mix given his past failings as a coach. Old boys club going to old boys club. But I'll cheer for success no matter who is behind the bench.

It would be real hard to believe that Chevy lands on Tocchet as the best option. At least in my opinion this should be between Montgomery and Brunette. They would seem to be the 2 best candidates. Though I could support Vincent.

Tocchet/Carlyle are full on nihilist choices. Honestly if it's not Brunette or Montgomery I'd be pretty disappointed and this has been a pretty disappointing stretch for the Jets. They need somewhat of a win with this hire. They can't have fan discontent over a coaching hire considering all the crap flying around at the moment.

I agree, they do need a win. There is quite clearly more going on than just a straight forward HC hire. So it opens the door on what you define as a win? If the culture is systemically rotten, which I suspect it is, then your HC needs to address those issues as well as put a product on the ice that will win. That is an exceptionally tough thing to do. I also suspect this is the reason why a guy like Tocchet has his name being mentioned as he would certainly be the type to address cultural issues. However, his record does not meet the other criteria. Trotz would have addressed both of those needs.

It is actually meaningless to hire an HC if the objective here was just to put a new system on the ice and win games. Unless the systemic issues are addressed head on, then the organization will perpetually fail and wind up with different versions of the same problem.

Those names that are left each have desirable attributes but obviously lack the entirety of needs. Interestingly, if a guy like Ralph Kreuger had a very good coaching record at the NHL level he would be the exact fit. He easily fits the cultural need, but lacks the on-ice success that desired. But here we are.

Has anyone ever heard a media interview with Tocchet? The man may have a hockey mind but he has trouble stringing two coherent sentences together. If he gets the nod…….the Jets are is worse shape than a lot of us think. Just my opinion.

I wouldn't support Vincent in a snow storm if his car was broken down and mine was running perfectly.

actually I would because that's what winnipegs all about.
