Dhaliwal on his Donnie and Dhali show today said that he is hearing that the Canucks have already engaged in trade conversations with teams in regards to trading their 2025 1st round pick by draft day. He adds that the Canucks are also willing to attach one of their top prospects in order to get a very good young 2C back as a return. Finally he said that D-petey, Elias Pettersson, is the only prospect that is deemed untouchable. He mentions that the team is also very high and excited about Victor Mancini which may have allowed them to be more open to moving recent 1st round draft pick and stud D prospect, Tom Willander.

Looks like the Canucks will pick somewhere around 13th-15th overall.

Rossi and Zegras are probably is the only one available realistically for a mid-1st + Willander.

The draft looks really weak this year past 10 as well, so a mid 1st 2025 ain't worth a mid 1st 2024 or 2026.

Rossi makes a lot of sense to me, I've gotten the impression that Minnesota isn't going to want to pay him what Rossi is going to ask for, especially with his struggles since Kaprizov has been out.

Zegras also seems fairly possible but I'm unsure Anaheim has any interest in moving him right now.

Next year's draft is definitely deeper but this years draft is still really good up to about the 20th pick or so then its a major drop off.

13th-15th pick will still be able to pull out a very valuable prospect...guys like Carbinneau or Aitchenson, Brady Martin....etc.

Barzal also makes a lot of sense to me especially of Isles are actually looking to trade Dobson.

Willander can replace Dobson which would then allow the Isles to retool using assets from the Dobson and Barzal trades.

1st, Willander, 4th for Barzal

Barzal has a 22 team no trade list so Vancouver has to hope they arent on it. At the same time too, his No trade clause will lessen the return for the Isles should they choose to trade Barzal.

Barzal would be interesting but I’m not sure the Isles would want a futures package. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem like a lot of obvious choices, unless someone takes a big leap after the move like what happened with Miller.

Rossi is intriguing, but (from my admittedly limited tidbits on the situation), it sounds like he might want one of the “pay for future improvements” type of RFA deals, which is the reason he might be available

It's all coming from ownership.

That doesn't excuse Benning, who is legitimately one of the worst GM's in NHL history, but the root cause is the head.

Not what the Canucks are looking for unless they really think he can blossom into a 2C.

Yeah, I know D-Pete has been a revelation and Mancini has some promise but I’d be hella scared to trade Willander. Sure as hell wouldn’t deal him for Barzal, let alone add a 1st to him.

He’s going to be a stud, and unless I’m getting a premium U24 possible PPG center coming back, I don’t think Vancouver would be smart to entertain it.

Of course, he’s the guy every poster is going to add to their proposals. That’s fun.

Sure - but Lekkermaki and especially Willander are elite, elite assets. I think Willander is a significant step up from a guy like Ritchie as an asset. When you add potential assets like that to picks - you’re changing the trajectory of what you can shop for.

Not many teams are going to “potentially” be willing to let go of an asset like Willander.

Guerin has a pretty good relationship with Jim Rutherford from his days under him in Pittsburgh. I think a deal could make a lot of sense. MIN will want to get off of Rossi before FA because he’s an offer sheet target, and they don’t have a first currently. My guess is VAN 1st + a decent roster player gets it done, I personally would not like it though.

What?

Canucks 13th-15th Overall 1st round pick is undoubtedly more valuable than Colorado's 1st round pick.

Willander and Ritchie were the same draft year and Willander went 11th overall and Ritchie went 27th.


So how exactly is an offer of Canucks 1st and Tom Willander the same price that Colorado paid to get Brock Nelson.....
