Genuine young top 4 RHD > young top 6 C.
Depends on the C and the D. If it's a 4D I don't care if he's a RHD, I ain't giving up a good young 2C for him.
Even now, there's multiple threads from multiple fan bases, offering up D prospects (even RHD) and picks for a young 2C. Which tells you not only how important 2C is, but also how scarce the supply is. If RHD were more valued, you'd have fans offering up their good young C prospects for established 2nd pairing RHD. But they don't.
I mean really, how many true top 6 Cs in the league are there? And how many teams actually have two of them, and are willing to give one up? Some good 2Cs are de facto 1Cs because of scarcity. Which leaves even fewer for teams looking for a 2nd (or even 1st) center.
There aren't 64 really good top 6 Cs to go around ... I might even argue there aren't 32 of them.
And unlike a D corps that lacks righties, you can't just play a guy on his off side and get by. There's no simple remedy when your 2C isn't up to snuff.
Luneau is a nice prospect but there’s levels to this and he’s not on Willander’s level.
I think they're very different stylistically, but Luneau is having a bonkers offensive season for a 20 year old. After a "slow" start (10 points in 22) he's had 38 points in 32 games. At one point in March he was leading the entire league in scoring post 1/1/25. Hard not to lump him in with the tier 2 group of high potential top 4 types, behind the tier 1 superstar potential guys.
