On a hypothetical If you offered AM, Marner, Nylander to Boston for Bergeron, Pasta and Marchand even them being older with contracts costing each team the same as paid, Boston would still refuse, but if we had those three I would guarantee we would have cleaned Mtl. and probabably get to semis at very least.

These 3 are proven reg season and playoff performers and rise when it matters. Boston coach and management would straighten our lads out quick and they would be much better for it in the long haul.

Reason why I posted something like this is because our guys other than Nylander this playoff disappear in the post season and I was just making comparison what success could look like so don't flame.

Send the guilty players to North Korea on a "team building" function and encourage them to take things home off of walls in hotels they find interesting. That should free up some cap space. Oh, and a hard no to torts.

I dont hate Keefe, and although I put this sh%tshow on the players he wasnt able to find a way to motivate them. (disclaimer: the players earning a ton should be able to motivate themselves ffs) Babs was too much of a hardass but Keefe may be too much of a pushover. If we arent changing the core Im on board for a new coach to see if there anything to be squeezed out of them.

Keep Keefe as assistant coach. Scotty Bowman or someone Bowman-esque as head coach.

Leafs are their own worst enemy continued...that could have been us in 2010, 2013, 2015, at least one cup

On August 3, 2007, it was reported that Bowman was offered the position of President of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bowman later appeared in an interview on Hockey Night in Canada on January 12, 2008 confirming that he was very close to taking the job only to be turned away by Richard Peddie, CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. (MLSE).[15][16] In July 2008, he took a position as senior advisor of hockey operations for the Chicago Blackhawks to work alongside his son Stan Bowman, who is the general manager.[17] The Blackhawks' Stanley Cup victory in 2010 gave Bowman his 12th Stanley Cup including coaching and team management, and the Blackhawks' 2013, and 2015 Stanley Cup victories were Bowman's 13th and 14th respectively.

A hard ass coach isn't the answer. I don't have a strong opinion on Keefe, but if replacing him you want a guy with ideas that treat everyone with respect at all times, but still hold the guys accountable. A hard ass wears out their welcome too quickly. They will get the guys going for a little while, but eventually the players will just start punching the clock and doing only minimum effort they can get away with. You want a guy that will have a consequence for being late for practice, or being lazy, or refusing to play the way they are told, but you don't want a guy that will chew their ass all day and punish little mistakes.

Torts: Take a hit and make a play! Play with 100% intensity for the whole 60 minutes! Don't be a p*ssy!

Marner:

Well let think. Sutter hard ass coach, Kings win 2 Cups, Torts hard ass coach wins 1 Cup, Keenan real hard coach wins Rangers a Cup, Now compare them to ypur nice guy coach whpo has ideas, how many of them won Cups. Scotty Bowmen he was a hard ass coach and he won lots of Cups.

I dont think that is a good idea. We have seen what he does to star young players. He derailed Dubois's and Laine's career.

How the hell did he derail the career of a guy who only played 45 games for him?

To be honest I would be ok keeping Keefe as he works well with the players

How'd that work out for us?

and has implemented a strategy that works.

They got bounced in the first round. You must have a different definition of 'works' than the rest of us.

Ya we had a hard ass coach in Babcock and we had a lazy, gutless team with him too. Jon Cooper doesn't strike me as a hard ass coach and that Lightning team shows up to play. The problem might just be our players.

Old school coaching brings old fart results. Carrot wins over the wip, if your not in to that sort of thing.

I dont think the kids need more pressure , they need less. Its Toronto Leafs ffs.

I actually agree. We got outworked last year in the Columbus series - we had the puck a lot but wouldn’t sacrifice and get into the danger areas, got kept to the outside. And this year, we got badly outworked with the series on the line in games 5, 6 and 7 - really didn’t compete.

I think Keefe has mostly good systems, and had us generally playing good D, but he’s a players coach, and I don’t think that’s what this group needs right now. They need a hard ass, and Torts is the best there is in that category. We need roster changes too, but compete level in the playoffs is a major issue for us, and I think Torts would be a step in the right direction.
Mostly good systems  Lol

1. most of our fans will whine that Torts is mean.
2. our overpaid players who haven't proven anything will not play for him or respect his coaching style

he would be the perfect coach for this group. Young enough to relate + a hard ass. Keefe failed back to back years.

I think what Keefe did last season taking over a team that was destined for hardship under Babcock and to turn it around. That was magnificent work with the roster he had heading into the playoffs.

This season it was evident that the players bought into his system. They played well in all facets of the game. Their offence was ranked in the top 5 of the league and their defense improved drastically both at the backend and team wise.

To me the players brought in this season worked and had a different identity. Things transpired this playoff and the end of the regular season that needs to be corrected.

They need to get their PP clicking as it was prior to the last 20 games of the season. To me that is on players and assistant coaching that runs that system. Their PK although it picked up during the same span of games and playoffs, it struggled the last 2 games when Muzzin wasnt present. One player should not determine the success of the PK. Again on players and assistant coaching of unit.

Heart of players, determination and passion of players, this isnt on the coach. Players either have it or they do not. Players like Nylander, Hyman and I will argue even Matthews have shown growth from year to year in this area. I know some may state Matthews did not produce. But this had more to do with luck (many posts/crossbars) and inconsistent play from his linemate. He was in the middle of scuffles and throwing his body around more then previous years. To me players like Reilly and Marner have not progressed in this area.

To me any coach will not be able to change that. They need to go.

So Keefe can stay in my books. Assistants need to be replaced. Reilly and Marner need to go. That is how you send a message. New coach with new system and strategy will only put us back some more. It in my eyes is not the way to go.

Torts hasn't shown that be all that good, and certainly has his own problems, but he's an asshole and they're mad so these people think it's perfect.

Columbus' sucks and their captain quit because of him. Get f***in real.
