I knew Franklin would throw someone under the bus, it's never his fault when they lose. Hope the Aggies hire him to replace Jimbo.

I admittedly liked the Yurcich hire. I don’t think he’s a bum by any means but I guess in hindsight his previous three stops at the P5 level the head coaches were/are primary play callers in Gundy, Day, & Herman. So this was the first time he was primary play caller at least at the P5 level.

The OL has probably improved as season has gone on but it’s just okay. I don’t think they were actually bad Saturday, they ran block okay & didn’t really give up a lot of pressure considering they were in obvious passing situations pretty much the whole second half. I think the WR’s absolutely suck & they had a pretty inexperienced QB.

So there certainly was personnel issues but I don’t think their play calling/game plans really did much this year to try & mitigate things in the Ohio State & Michigan games. They kind of just admitted defeat, like at least go down swinging. I think they were better at some little things this year like staying ahead of schedule more as an offense both with the run & pass. They weren’t taking as many negative plays like they were in previous years but they completely lost all their explosion this year which you absolutely needed against teams like Ohio State & Michigan. You’re not going to out-efficiency those teams because they have more talent than your in most spots at least when going your offense vs. their defense.

I doubt Searels leaves again, but it wouldn't bother me if he wanted to come back were that to happen.

This also reminds me of Searels doing a coaching clinic talking about that Jailbreak Screen they run and in the middle of a play, ripping Tate Ratledge for not finishing blocks. "Look at this. 69 might as well buy a ticket. This should be 6, damn it."
I like Pittman on the recruiting side, but Searels has really solidified that group, imo. There were times under Pittman and Luke where they could run block but struggled in pass pro, or vice versa. They were way too inconsistent given then talent advantage.

Searels has never stuck around anywhere too long, so I suppose they should be succession planning at all costs.

@JojoTheWhale, thoughts on the SEC championship game? It's essentially looking like a play-in game for one SEC team unless a bunch of other teams fall apart in the next two weeks.

I saw early lines that had UGA -5, but this Alabama team worries me. Cumulatively, there's still a ton of talent there, and Milroe plays that backyard football brand that has given Kirby's defense fits in the past. The front seven for UGA is going to dictate how that one goes. Can the front collapse the pocket effectively and can the second level fill the lanes and keep him contained? If not, Milroe will scramble and hit shallow crossers for days.

They’ve been talking about that situation on the Cover 3 Pod all year. Their viewpoint has been his personality/likability there might be enough to safe him this year that his predecessors wouldn’t survive with those results. But I guess not.
Yeah, I never understood the hire. They went full CEO mode with Pittman as the face of recruiting. He needed to nail the coordinator hires, which they did on the first staff. Retention and staff continuity was always going to be a problem there and they don't have the level of player to plug and play coaches.

Pittman is one of the most decent humans in the sport, so I would hate to see him call it quits, but he's where he wants to be long term, coaching or not.

Were I betting that game (I'm not), I would play the Bama money line. That's the only potential value on the board to me.

In this specific matchup, I agree with you. In general, I'm focused on the Georgia offense. Even going into the Vandy game before the Bowers injury, I was worried. No identity whatsoever beyond feeding Bowers when things got desperate. They did everything well enough, but nothing that felt like they could do against anyone. It was a more reactive offense than one good enough to dictate to the defense. Beck has taken steps and that definitely helps, but Kendall Milton is my key to the rest of the year. This is college. RBs can take over a game. They're down just enough this year to need that.

I agree with that, but I do think the offense has grown up a bit in the last three weeks. McConkey and Bowers are healthy again, Rara and Lovett are starting to figure it out, and Milton/Edwards are healthy enough to give them that 1-2 punch on the rotation. But most importantly, Mims is back. That OL looks so much better with him there on the right side. It allows Truss to slide back to the left side as a rotational piece at T/G. They will go as that o-line goes, and I feel a lot more comfortable with them than I did a month ago. Plus, they got that confidence booster this past weekend. They look like an offense that's starting to get comfortable... like this time last year with them.

It's going to get pretty wild if everyone does what they're supposed to do the next three weeks and Alabama wins in Atlanta. In that scenario, FSU, one of Washington/Oregon and one of OSU/Michigan are locks. Then you have Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Michigan/OSU, and possibly Washington all trying to get that last spot. Ironically enough, this is the first year in recent memory where an expanded format makes sense. Depending on how you want to look at it, there's either a bunch of really good teams, or no truly elite teams.

I don’t know his buyout figures so that could be an hurdle or not but I’d imagine Chip being attached to Dante Moore could potentially be something in his favor to buy him more time there as well.

Edit: He apparently has an $8M buyout due to him before December, after that time period it drops to $4M. So yeah money shouldn’t be an issue if they feel the need to move on.

@LegionOfDoom91 I am so dumb. This never even crossed my mind, but the guy they should get is Sean Lewis. That's realistic.

Yeah I don’t know what’s what but I’d hope he’d be on their internal list.

Joe Moorhead & Joe Brady have been kicked around but they have the obvious ties to Penn State so that’s gonna come up regardless if they’re on the internal list. Tyler Bowen is another one at VT.

Sean Lewis, Brennan Marion, & Andy Ludwig have been throw around as well for current OC’s in college.

I do wonder if they take a more serious look to the NFL or not? When Harbaugh & Michigan were in a similar crossroad situation a few years ago like Franklin & Penn State are in now that’s the route they took.

I think they the general vibe is they very well could have to replace Manny Diaz as well. It sounds like he might not be a guy who looks at it as P5 HC job or bust.

The Texas A&M donors association presented a $160 *MILLION* check at half-time of what would be Jimbo's last game.

Jimbo trying to cash that thing later.

I get it’s an SEC job & they’ll probably pay good money but it just seems like a graveyard to me. They got lucky with Leach as he probably was like the ultimate mid to low level P5 job type of coach. He was obviously a good coach but he also has a cult of personality to keep fans happy/content even during lean years.

So he probably could have handled it if not for his passing. I’m not sure others can. I’m not saying Joe Moorhead did some amazing job but he probably more so got fired because he was the guy to follow Dan Mullen & he wasn’t a southern guy.
