Watching this game, he probably should have believed in transfers. They're practically treating 15 yards as a hail mary with the guy, with 10 yards as his general limit and calling a ton of -3 to 5 yard stuff. If that's the level of trust you've got starting Year 2, then it's awfully unfair to everyone else on the team to willingly go with that without at least trying to get an alternative in. Looked like a lot of plays where Duke was stacking in close and not worried about long threats, either. It's a hellish and unworkable way to try and score.

It’s just stupid from his standpoint because you’re willingly handicapping yourself while the other top teams you’re trying to compete with are doing it. Even Alabama, Georgia, & Ohio State who on average for a while now has recruited at a noticeable higher clip than the next tier of recruiting powers use the transfer portal to supplement their roster. Now it’s probably single digit amount of players they bring in every year but those guys are typically all quality type of players.

Now recruiting & player development within your program is still the most paramount thing in roster building but the transfer portal has allowed even the top teams to squeeze a little more talent on to their roster every year.

But Dabo is just stubborn. He doesn’t like the transfer rules now so he doesn’t participate in it. Like I’m sure there’s a lot of other coaches out there that agree with him in spirit but they ultimately realize it is what it is & there could actually be a avenue to it that could benefit them if used that way.
