Burrow wasn’t even good his first year in LSU. It’s kind of hard to blame Ohio State for that choice regardless how it’s ended up now. Haskins was pretty good that year & the following year they ended up with Fields anyway.

Burrow had one of the more crazier development arch’s in recent memory. Nobody even had him as a draftable player going into his 5th year.

He wasn’t good until the UCF guy lit him up.

Maybe sometimes CTE is good.

I think Burrow started coming around in the last month of 2018. I rewatched that 7OT 74-72 Loss to TAMU in late November and he carried that team. Now maybe that's just hindsight goggles on my part. But no one had a reason to think that was just who he was. Everyone from Max Duggan to KJ Jefferson could randomly do that sometimes.

Like you said, Haskins was a phenomenal NCAA QB though. I get making that choice. I really do.

Haskins was pretty good in his cameo appearances the year before he started as well. It wasn’t just all mop up duty as he drew into the Michigan game that year when Barrett got knocked out of the game & lead them to a win. At that time Haskins was absolutely the better the QB, it wasn’t just all based on practice either. Haskins was doing the things you needed to see that make you hopeful that would turn him into the guy he ultimately became the following year as the starter.

But there’s a lot of revisionist history with that decision as if it’s black & white. Some of it’s even based off what happened to both at the next level which is kind of irrelevant.

Obviously in hindsight they made a mistake but actually looking at with the information they had at the time they made the decision. Even with hindsight it’s not exactly like they went for broke in that exchange. The had one year of Haskins & then two years of Fields following that. So it’s not like they had chopped live at the QB position.

Nah. He was good when he was there. Meyer for some stupid reason refused to use him. Every player at OSU at the time knew he had the best arm around. Meyer wanted a QB who could run so that he could do his Tebow 2.0 thing.

If Burrow stays at OSU then he'd be flipping burgers in a landfill now.

LSU's crowd traveled like shit. This is basically a road game for them. Pretty embarrassing for a borderline blue blood program.

In the ‘18 spring game at OSU, Burrow out performed Barrett and Haskins going 15-22 ; 238 yards and two TDs. Meyer wanted a better running QB than Burrow. JB saw the future and left town.
IMO, this was when fan support for Meyer started to crack. JB, a local kid, did not get a fair shake here. Living in Ohio among a bunch of avid Buckeye fans, there was a huge amount of unhappiness and disappointment with the way that Burrow was treated.
Then he went to LSU and from the beginning started to tear up the league. In ‘18 he twice won the SEC offensive player of the week. Almost 2900 yards in passing with 16 touchdowns along with 399 yards rushing and seven more touchdowns. It was the next season with a new offensive coordinator brought in from the Saints that he really went nuts and won the Heisman.
None of this was lost on Buckeye fans who to this day feel that if Burrow had stayed and been used properly by Meyer that OSU could have won two national championships.

Dwayne Haskins wasn’t a running QB. He met the mobile enough standard but nobody was fearing his legs. He was a pocket passer. If anything Burrow is/was a bigger running threat of the two.

Haskins threw for 4,831 yards & 50 touchdowns in 2018 (both led the entire country in those statistics) & Ohio State didn’t win a National Championship that year. He ran for 108 yards & had 4 touchdowns on the ground just to show how big of running threat he was.

It was never Burrow vs. Barrett. Ohio State fans/media if anything were complaining that they didn’t get to Haskins over Barrett quicker. It was always gonna be Haskins. He was actually used as QB2 during that time & was productive in the games he actually played the year before he became QB1 & not just a spring game.

Every time I think of Haskins, the first thing that comes to mind is some books setting his 40 time O/U at 4.71. I maxed that bad boy out at every book that would take my money all the way up to 4.8.

I guess the myth that he was a running QB still living on I today is a testament to why it was set where it was.

FSU looked much improved last night. It was only one game, but LSU looks like a team to regress a bit this year. They still don't have a lot of depth and their top end stars were pretty pedestrian. The OL still isn't very good and they're going to have to move that pocket a bunch again this year. Daniels still has a lot of potential but I'm not sure his stock improves as at all this year given what the offense will have to look like to keep him healthy.

Btw, for all the clock change speculation... that game was nearly four hours.
