Looks like Penticton is headed to the WHL.
Even if CIS teams are forced to start recruiting from Midget C I don’t think they are going to feel the hit as bad as the BCHL with the decision to go rogue…

On the flip side I’m pretty confident this props up leagues like the MHL that basically work as a feeder to the Q , CIS and D.3 , since it will likely push players down and they rarely sends players to Div.1 , I believe Josh Henry is the only D.1 commit in the MHL right now .

No idea where the BCHL goes since they are an outlaw league and can’t work as a WHL feeder … Do they come back to hockey Canada with their tails between their legs ?

There are already far too many Jr A teams in Canada, buoyed by the NCAA eligibility rule that is now gone. Very few Jr A franchises are financially viable, and they have been living off the players fees parents are willing to pick up to retain the NCAA dream.

I expect we'll see contraction in most Jr A leagues, and the quality of Jr A will rise accordingly from coast to coast.

Can’t say that would be an awful thing , currently (I can only speak for the MHL) the gap from the best to the worst player on a team is greater than any other level of hockey I’ve seen . I see guys who look like they could jump into a CIS or D.3 today and some kids who don’t look much better than kids playing Midget AA or New Brunswick High School (which can be very entertaining but isn’t necessarily great hockey).
If you were to cut the maritime league in half the hockey would be amazing. Kinda sucks Fredericton won’t have a team it would appear going forward because I’d love to watch this play out.
