Randle and Payton were ones I liked. Portis is ehhh.

Ellington, Gibson and Bullock were moronic.

Do they think they’ll get anything for these guys next year? Cause they won’t.

I didn't mind any of the signings that they made tbh. Gibson is going to be more of a mentor/attitude change player. The young players can learn a lot from a veteran like him. Depending on how the others fit in and what happens next offseason, they might even pick up the 2nd year option to keep him around.

Bullock and Ellington are 3&D guys that can play the wing. Barrett, Knox, and Iggy are going to need some support on the wing and these guys will help them. Some will argue they'll take playing time from them, but the young guys will need to learn and having actual vets that can play and take time from them is good. It should push them to be better. Last season, they knew they would play eventually because the replacements really sucked.

Portis is good too because, as we have seen plenty with young bigs, Robinson will find himself in foul trouble. Jordan was a good mentor for him at the end of last season. Portis more competition, but that never hurts.

Last season, the vet only real veteran around was Lance Thomas. A real bare bones roster with a bunch of kids. Now there is some veteran insulation, all on flexible contracts. Can't have another season where they win 17 games. As much as the kids will develop, they will be hindered by the losses piling up.

Could see some deadline deals where they get picks or young players out of it, while the Knicks take on an expiring deal of a player that doesn't fit into a teams plan that season. Teams making a push for a chip will be calling to get the 3&D players that will spread the floor for them.

I understand the vet presence but there's a real opportunity to gain assets by helping teams shed cap. Iguodala was one example. The Clippers got a 1st rounder to take on Harkless. With Westbrook on the block, there's probably going to be teams trying to clear cap space to trade for him. Or possibly being a 3rd team in a deal that moves Westbrook.

Clearly they had Plan A - the KD/Kyrie pairing, and Kawhi mixed in somewhere. But I'm not sure what plan B was. It just seems like they scrambled and started signing every UFA who would take a 2 year deal once Plan A failed.

Yeah, but there is something to getting guys that actually want to be on the team. Now, the Harkless situation, he probably loves it going to the Clippers. Iguodala getting bought out and is likely going to LA. You tell a guy that they are trading him to the Knicks and they are getting a 1st rounder, they know they are just a salary dump, and while being a professional is one thing, you'd have to think that the player would have a certain attitude going onto a team that is rebuilding/developing players.

If you go into free agency and tell these players, we want you, and if you do well enough, you're gonna be here for more than one season, there is motivation. The extra assets are nice and everything, but all is not lost on that front, especially since these players can be treated as rentals if the right deal comes along.

I'm not a fan of the players, but at least they all have team options for next year. If they don't work out, it shouldn't be too much of a hindrance.

@Brooklyn Rangers Fan thought on RHJ on the Raptors.
Good defensive player, active body, very athletic. 2 seasons ago, it appeared that he was making progress on the offensive end, but he got hurt last training camp, and reinjured during the year, and during the time he did spend on the court last year, he looked like he had completely regressed. Offense does not come naturally to him, and in the best case he's making it work deliberately. Worst case, he gets out of control and throws up wild shots. Jumper is ugly.

Morris is a great player - but what are the Knicks looking to accomplish with this signing? Im really confused if the route they took in FA.

They signed just about everyone to a 1 year deal with a 1 year team option. All will be able to be dealt around December and will have value. Gives the Knicks cap flexibility next summer for trades/signings.

I didn’t agree with a lot of the deals but it is what it is.

Honestly with the flatten odds in the lottery I’d rather watch this team than the shit from last year. I don’t need another season of the Kornet and Ellenson show.

For the Knicks sake, I hope they don't keep them around like they did with Kanter, KoQ, Beasley etc. Lot of missed assets there.
