My question is, how is Randle not a star? He scores from everywhere and drops 40 and 10 rebounds like I drop my cereal in my bowl in the morning. He makes it look hard yes, but he hustles and scores.

He's a star, but he's not good enough to be the top option on a title contender. Which is fine, there are only ~10 guys in the league good enough to be the #1 option on a title team...and we've got plenty of draft capital to upgrade our "big 3" as well as add that bigger wing defender we're lacking.

I won't be surprised if we see our FO use a lot of those spare picks this summer to turn RJ into someone like Brown / Beal / Lavine and pick up someone like Finney-Smith.

Realistic options for a #1
BOS:
Bradley Beal
26 NYK FRP
25 MIL FRP + 25 swap rights

NYK:
Jaylen Brown
Danilo Gallinari

WSH:
RJ Barrett
Evan Fournier
23 DAL FRP
23-26 WSH FRP
24 NYK FRP
-------------------------
NYK:
Bradey Beal

WSH:
RJ Barrett
Evan Fournier
23 DAL FRP
23-26 WSH FRP
24 NYK FRP
-------------------------
NYK:
Zach Lavine

WSH:
RJ Barrett
Obi Toppin/23 DAL FRP/23-26 WSH FRP/23-27 DET FRP
Obi Toppin/23 DAL FRP/23-26 WSH FRP/23-27 DET FRP

Realistic options for a bigger 3&D guy:
NYK:
OG Anunoby
(Chris Boucher?)

TOR:
Quentin Grimes
Evan Fournier
(Isiah Hartenstein?)
23 DAL FRP/23-26 WSH FRP/23-27 DET FRP
24 NYK FRP
-------------------------
NYK:
Finney-Smith
Patty Mills

BKN:
Derrick Rose
23 DAL FRP/23-26 WSH FRP/23-27 DET FRP

3rd team:
Obi Toppin
-------------------------

Obi Toppin
1-2 SRPs

Boy, was I wrong about Toppin.
Never imagined he could expand his game like he has.
Yeah Obi's tough. On the one hand he's still a work in progress because of his late growth spurt, even though he's already 500 years old, and he's stuck behind a workhorse 2-time allstar.

On the other he's a good kid, with incredible physical tools, who is putting in the work and his skills have come a long way from when he was drafted. I still think he could reach the highest level of anyone on the roster...but I don't think it'll happen in NY.

Anyways, yesterday's performance is exactly why I think our FO will look to swap RJ & some futures for Zach this offseason if the Bulls realize that they should pivot.

RJ & Obi could both take big steps next season alongside Caruso/Lonzo, Pat Williams, & Vucevic; while a Lavine, Randle, & Brunson big 3 could win a series or two with IQ, Grimes, Hart, our rim protectors, and a backup forward like DFS.

I'd love to snag PW if we do move for Lavine, but not sure that's particularly likely lol

This is..odd..I'm not trading a package of RJ and Toppin for a often injured breaking down 28 year old with a massive cap hit. That doesn't make the team any better and serious!y worsens them in the long run

He’s 3 years older than Obi & the same age as Julius, we’re not talking about LeBron. But the main reason I worry our FO will pursue him is that unlike RJ & Obi he’s already a damn good player and has been just fantastic for months now.

You’re really under-rating him if you don’t think swapping RJ for him would make us a much better team in the short run…though I do think RJ can reach a similar level eventually.

With Julius & Jalen both deserving all-nba spots this season, I just see our FO wanting to realign to their timeline…and if they do they’ll probably dangle some combo of our kids who aren’t ready yet (RJ & Obi), our protected picks & 24 FRP, and ‘24/‘25 swap rights.

If they don’t touch any unprotected FRPs past next spring then if someone like Luka or Tatum asked out next summer, we’d still be in great shape to make a KD-like offer for him.

I really don't think there is any way the Knicks are giving up RJ AND Obi plus 1st round picks for LaVine.

If there's one word to describe this front office, it's patient. They're not breaking the bank for a 28-year-old whose teams have reached the playoffs exactly once in his 8-year career.

Unfortunately, there just doesn't seem to be a suitable FA or disgruntled star this off-season or next that makes sense. If only Lillard weren't so old... If only Beal didn't sign a monster contract... I really have no idea who is even a realistic possibility. I just don't believe this FO has been hoarding assets for 3 years to go broke for LaVine.

I'm not interested in the player or cap hit at all..regardless of how good the player is.I don't think this front office would be either for the type of package you're proposing

I'd rather sit tight, but I'm skeptical our fo will. At least it's a market-value contract signed before the new tv deal, lavine is an excellent player, and it would be a lot cheaper than Spida would've been for a similar player…so I don’t see why you think our FO wouldn’t be interested in Lavine at the right price :dunno:

I didn’t mean it would take all of those assets, IMO fair value would be 1-2 of those FRPs if we send them Obi as well as RJ. Just that those are the assets I see them trying to use this summer since we could still make a Durant-offer next summer

…1 of: Lavine / Randle / Brunson + 4 unprotected NYK FRPs (25, 27, 29, & 31) + all available swaps + whichever protected picks aren’t spent this summer + further sweeteners (if needed)

A Lavine or Brown trade only makes sense if we keep enough ammo to swap them for a Tatum / Luka caliber player…but we have the surplus to do just that. If they have to commit their entire future than just like the Mitchell trade they’ll probably bow out.

This FO has been patient, but they have also explored all of their options to make progress even if it’s a single instead of a homerun…and unlike spida the price could be right for Lavine to help them take that next step.

I could be wrong on this - but isn't Lavine's contract actually larger than Spidah's and goes a year longer? Looking at these LaVine and Mitchell - it looks like LaVine actually makes almost $10mil a year more than Mitchell.

And definitely, either Embiid or Luka are the dream. But I can't imagine Cuban ever letting Luka end up on the Knicks. I just love how everyone was ALL ABOUT how the Mavs fleeced the Knicks on the Porzingis trade and we just finished a season where the Mavs had to intentionally tank just to avoid giving us their draft pick AND Cuban got fined for it. Not to mention swooping ascendent Brunson on a helluva deal. *chef's kiss*

I meant that asset wise, Spida would have cost more to trade for

Same old Knicks ... Fourth quarter turnovers and missed freethrows.

Edit: clutch free throws by Grimes!
