Im not sure if they changed the Kris Bryant rule. But when could we call up Crews and not burn a year on his rookie contract? And this might be next season.

After Round 1 of the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Rory McIlroy was asked about Thursday's news regarding Phil Mickelson allegedly attempting to make a $400,000 wager on his 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup team.

The Northern Irishman did not hold back.

"At least he can bet on the Ryder Cup this year because he won't be a part of it," McIlroy said.

Morales in 9 games .361 average with 7 RBI and a 1.008 OPS.
Crews games at .280 avg with 2 HR and 8 RBI and a .868 OPS in 5 games.
House having a nice bounce back year at .297 in 36 games with 6 HRs and 22 RBI and .869 OPS.

LOL he's none of those things. He's 100% right, as well as defending and 3x FedEx Cup champ.

I wonder if Phil actually placed that bet? He would've lost.

He is soooooo salty. Please keep worrying about that stuff Rory and you’ll never win another major. Which is actually perfect.

For years, Phil projected this wholesomeness schtick while apparently feeding an addiction-level gambling habit that resulted in him hanging with some sketchy dudes. Darkness on the edge of town.

Right. That was always the back channel story with Phil...that he was a huge phony like David Simms in Tin Cup.

Ultimately all the Tiger vs Phil people slinging mud over that kind of shit really need to make it about something else because neither guy is a saint.

OTOH I'm all out of salt after shooting 69 at Hampshire Greens my first time there. ;)

By default players earn a year of service time if they are on the 26 man roster or injured list for 172 days in a season. (Season has 187 days total.)

But if Crews were to be on the roster less than 172 days but still place in the top 2 in Rookie of the Year voting, he'd be granted a full year of service. That's the counter to the Kris Bryant scenario, it was added in the most recent CBA. (It is only applicable to a player who was on a top 100 prospects list.) This occurred last year with Ashley Rutschman.

Also, the 'carrot' for the team: If Crews were to be on the active roster long enough to earn a year of service time naturally (i.e. 172 days) and win ROY, the Nats would get an extra draft pick between the first and second rounds. With the extra money the get allocated to bonuses from that pick, it can be a big deal.

His gambling was so well know for 20 years, who truly thought he was trying to portray any image of wholesomeness? What you see is what you get from Phil IMO. The way he acts in front of fans, the smiles and good nature is real IMO.

That’s said, addictions don’t discriminate against anyone, but as someone who has had a few friends who were “degenerate” gamblers….(they called themselves that as an ongoing self-deprecating joke btw)….what goes up, always comes down.

Phil learned the same lessons as so many before him.

Eventually you have to stop because the house almost always gets you, no matter how skilled or lucky you are.

When you’re high rolling AND winning….there’s no greater rush, and on the flip side, not many worse feelings than the pit in your stomach watching a buddy drop $20k in 10 mins, or $150-200k in a long weekend. It’s so incredibly intoxicating when you’re winning. You’re treated like a rock star where nothing is unattainable at least in the high level casino arena.

That was the back story among his critics. I don’t see a lot of people in the game bashing Phil for being a phony, in fact he was beloved (almost universally) until LIV. Like that quote said, “today’s Arnie”…

What did you shoot on the back 9? ;)

Not almost. It Always gets you. Speaking as a 30yr player. Which means a 30yr loser.

I mean sure you win some you lose some, but there are also many professional gamblers who make a great living. I’m sure you weren’t a loser all those years, maybe you were. One of my buddies was a high stakes blackjack player and he had at least 4-5 winning years, but it turned baaaaaaaad on him when the cards went cold. That last year was a train wreck before he stopped altogether.

Best way to win at gambling is to play other humans. Not the house.

I've been betting through DK since it became legal in MD last November and am still playing with house money.

My little parlays and small prop bet specials aren't going to break the bank either way.

Having a lot of money riding on a game would probably cause more anxiety than excitement.

I don't even bet on the golf course. Maybe I should.

I don’t really like video games but if I deposit 50 bucks once a season and get to enjoy all the games by putting a little action on them I am very OK with that.
